Which tickets can I purchase from the self-service ticket machine?
- All standard train tickets, monthly passes, train taxi tickets, tickets with a different departure station or a stop-off.
- Train tickets to Belgium, the western part of Germany and Luxembourg. For more information about international train tickets, see NS Hispeed .

Useful information
- The ticket machine first returns your card before asking you to key in your PIN-code.
- You touch the screen lightly. It is not necessary to press hard.
- Do not lean on the screen as that impedes the operation.

Explanation about the touch-screen ticket machine
3 steps to get your train ticket
- Touch your selection on the screen
- Insert debit card or Chipknip
- Take tickets/passes from the tray
Detailed explanation:
- You select ‘Single’, ‘Day Return’, ‘Weekend Return’, ‘5 Return ticket’, ‘Railrunner’ or ‘Train-taxi’.
If you select ‘Other tickets’ (in the bottom left-hand corner) the ticket/pass types are shown on the screen: ‘Day travel card’, ‘Monthly passes’, ‘ICE supplement’ and ‘2-1 Upgrade passes’. At this ticket machine, you can also purchase a ticket to popular destinations in Belgium and Germany.
To purchase the ‘Single’, ‘Day Return’, ‘Weekend Return’, ‘5 Return ticket’ and ‘Monthly route passes’ types, please follow the steps below.
- Touch the first letter of your destination.
- Select your destination by touching it on the screen.
- Choose 1st or 2nd class (except when purchasing a youth monthly route pass).
- Select ‘Full fare’ or ‘Discount’ (except when purchasing a monthly route pass).
- Select ‘Valid today’ or ‘Open date’.
- Choose the number of tickets/passes you want (up to four tickets/passes - except when purchasing montly passes).
- Choose you payment method (fast and safe with debit card or Chipknip).
- Insert your card and follow the instructions on the payment screen.
- Take your tickets/passes from the tray.
If you select one of the following ticket types: ‘Bicycle day travel card’, ‘Dog day travel card’, ‘ICE supplement’, ‘Railrunner’ or ‘Train-taxi’, please follow steps 6 to 10.
If you want a ‘2-1 Upgrade pass’ [Upgrade 2 - 1], please follow steps 7 to 10.
If you select one of the other day travel cards, follow steps 4 to 10.
