Alkmaar, Arnhem and Breda

On King's Day, large numbers of revellers travel by train. Due to the large crowds different rules will apply on the train and at the station from 18:00 on Tuesday evening 26 April until 7:00 on Thursday morning 28 April.



After its successful events over the past few years, SLAM! will once again be hosting the SLAM!Koningsdag this year in Alkmaar. For the fourth year running, this large dance event will take place at P8 at the AFAS Stadium from 12:00 on Wednesday 27 April. Good to know

  • Access to the festival is only possible if you have a ticket.
  • We expect large numbers of revellers to take the train to Alkmaar. For this reason, expect bigger crowds on trains and at stations. 

Travelling to Alkmaar by train

On King's Day, no trains will stop at platform 1.  Consult the departure signs and the Travel planner to find out the correct departure platform.


You can travel to SLAM!Koningsdag via Alkmaar station. From there you can board a special shuttle bus to the AFAS Stadium. At the station there are signs indicating the route to the shuttle bus pick-up point.

Return journey

Make sure that you board the correct shuttle bus for your return journey at AFAS Stadium. The buses for trains travelling towards Haarlem or Amsterdam stop at the rear of Alkmaar station. If you wish to travel towards Hoorn or Den Helder, then you should take the shuttle bus that stops at the front of the station.

City centre

Various festivities are also being held in Alkmaar city centre. The city centre is within walking distance of Alkmaar station. 


Kingsize Festival

In Arnhem the Kingsize Festival will be taking place at the Markt. On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 April, Arnhem city centre will serve as a podium for a lot of performances. The various stages have something for everyone! King's Day festivities in Arnhem attract 400,000 visitors each year. That means that Arnhem is one of the biggest party destinations on King's Day.

Performances start at 18:00 on 26 April and at 12:00 on 27 April.

Getting there by train

The Markt in Arnhem is within walking distance of Arnhem station. We will be using larger trains and more trains to make sure revellers can get to the festivities.

Breda, Nassaustad and Oranjestad, holds extensive celebrations for King's Day. Everyone is welcome! On this day, there is a diverse and colourful programme in the historical heart of the city.

In Stadspark Valkenberg the festivities start early with the Children's Market and various sporting and cultural activities. The park truly has an 'Orange' atmosphere.

A variety of live performances will take place in the city centre. All kinds of music will be played on a variety of stages, from pop to rock and from smartlappen to jazz! In addition, 538Koningsdag will once again be held in Breda this year. 40,000 music lovers will flock to the Chasséveld for the party! Good to know

The 538Koningsdag event is only accessible to those who have purchased a ticket.

Getting there by train 

All large events are within walking distance of Breda station. Due to construction work, Breda station is only accessible via the Belcrumzijde (the north side).
