The new timetable for 2017 will go into effect on 11 December 2016. See what changes are in store for your region or plan your journey using the NS Travel Planner.
Faster Intercity connection Den Haag - Eindhoven
In 2017, travellers from Den Haag to Eindhoven will be able to take advantage of the high speed rail line. This Intercity service will no longer stop in Dordrecht. For the first few months after the introduction of this service (expected in April), travellers will have to make a quick transfer in Breda, but later on NS will provide a direct connection between Den Haag and Eindhoven. The new connection will save travellers 9 minutes, even with the transfer in Breda.
Due to two 16 day periods of engineering work in the Rotterdamse Willemsspoortunnel in December 2016 and January 2017, less trains will be running. That is why the new connection Den Haag - Breda will start running on 23 January 2017. NS will use the periods of engineering work and the time in between them to test the new train service. Check the NS Travel Planner for up to date information regarding alternative travel options between Den Haag and Breda up until 23 January 2017. Whatever the case, information will always be available 10 days in advance. The Intercity Breda - Eindhoven will be running from the start of the new timetable on 11 December.
Tilburg - Rotterdam and Breda - Schiphol
The Intercity trains between ’s-Hertogenbosch - Breda and the Intercity direct Breda - Rotterdam connect in Breda. In Rotterdam, travellers can transfer to the Intercity Den Haag - Eindhoven or the Intercity direct Rotterdam - Amsterdam. This gives travellers from Tilburg and Rotterdam, for example, four fast travel options per hour: 2 direct connections and 2 connections with a transfer in Breda. Travellers from Breda to Schiphol can travel every 15 minutes as well: 2 direct connections and 2 connections with a transfer in Rotterdam. Travellers in Breda can also transfer between the Intercity direct and the Sprinter Breda - Tilburg - ’s-Hertogenbosch. This saves travellers 15 minutes between Schiphol and Tilburg University, for example.
2 Sprinters per hour will run between Dordrecht - Breda and Dordrecht - Roosendaal. The Sprinters to Breda will continue on to Tilburg and ‘s-Hertogenbosch. This creates a direct connection between Dordrecht, Dordrecht Zuid and Tilburg University. In addition, an Intercity will run ever hour between Dordrecht and Breda to replace the Intercity Den Haag - Eindhoven.
In order to realise the direct Sprinter connection between Dordrecht - ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Sprinters from Rotterdam will not travel any further than Dordrecht. Travellers with the Sprinters from Roosendaal and Breda can transfer to the Intercity to Rotterdam Centraal in Dordrecht.
Venlo - Eindhoven - Utrecht Centraal - Schiphol
The Intercity Venlo - Eindhoven will continue on to Schiphol instead of Den Haag. This means that the Intercity train will be coupled and decoupled with the Intercity Heerlen - Schiphol (and vice versa). This gives travellers from Venlo, Helmond and Deurne a direct connection with met ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Utrecht, Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol. In Eindhoven, travellers can transfer to the other side of the platform for the Intercity Eindhoven - Den Haag. The Intercity Heerlen - Schiphol will not run in the evenings. Instead, the Intercity Venlo - Eindhoven will run according to the same schedule as during the day. This means that travellers will always be able to transfer to get to and from Den Haag.
Improved connection in Venlo
In Venlo, travellers can quickly transfer between the Maaslijn train (Nijmegen - Venlo-Roermond) and the Intercity to and from Eindhoven, as both stop at the same platform. This saves 20 minutes for a journey between the Maaslijn and Eindhoven. Travellers to and from Eindhoven - Düsseldorf will save around 15 minutes, and the connection between Den Haag and Düsseldorf will be around 25 minutes shorter.
’s-Hertogenbosch/Tilburg - Eindhoven - Weert - Sittard
The Intercity trains between Eindhoven - Sittard will run 4 times per hour, with an interval of 10 or 20 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. The Sprinter Weert - Eindhoven will once again continue on to Tilburg University. The Sprinter between Eindhoven and ‘s-Hertogenbosch will have to wait in Boxtel for the Intercity to pass by, so it will take longer to reach its destination.
Utrecht - ’s-Hertogenbosch
The Sprinters from Utrecht to ‘s-Hertogenbosch will no longer continue on to Tilburg. Travellers between Utrecht and Tilburg will have to transfer to the Sprinter to Dordrecht or the Intercity to Roosendaal in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
Zwolle - Roosendaal
The Intercity between Zwolle and Roosendaal will be 9 minutes faster than before, because it no longer stops at Arnhem Zuid, Elst and Nijmegen Lent.
The connection in Roosendaal from the direction of Vlissingen to Breda, Tilburg and ’s-Hertogenbosch will be 10 minutes shorter. However, the travel time between Vlissingen and Rotterdam will increase by 4 to 6 minutes, because the Intercity between Zeeland and Amsterdam will have to wait longer in Roosendaal.
More sprinters during peak hours between Oss - ‘s-Hertogenbosch
4 sprinters will run ever hour between Oss and ‘s-Hertogenbosch instead of the previous 2. In ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Sprinters will connect to the Intercity trains to and from Utrecht, which gives travellers four travel opportunities between Rosmalen and Utrecht during peak hours.
The local trains Roermond - Maastricht and Sittard - Heerlen will be operated by Arriva instead of NS. Arriva will also take over the routes Nijmegen - Roermond and Maastricht Randwyck - Kerkrade Centrum from Veolia.
