Assistance de-boarding the train

Which side of the train must you de-board from? This information is not only relevant to travellers with a visual impairment who cannot see the platform, but also to passengers in wheelchairs.


Travel Planner Xtra app

In the Travel Planner Xtra app, next to the arrival station you can see whether you must de-board the train to the right or left of the direction of travel. With this information, you can move to the correct side of the train to prepare to de-board. You can also play the information in the form of an audio message using your smartphone's standard audio function.

Instructions for iOS:

  • After planning your journey, you can click on the 'More' button at the bottom right.
  • Select the option 'More information' in the option menu.
  • The travel recommendation will be expanded to show the side of the train to de-board at each transfer and arrival station during the journey.
  • The app will remember this setting, so you only need to perform it once.

Instructions for Android:

  • After planning your journey, you can click on the arrow icon at the top right.
  • The icon will change and the travel information will be expanded to show the side of the train to de-board at each transfer and arrival station during the journey.
  • The app will remember this setting, so you only need to perform it once.

De-boarding side reminder

You can request information about the side of the train to de-board from at any time, 24 hours per day, by contacting NS Onderweg at 030-235 78 22. You can also call this telephone number to book a de-boarding side reminder. This service can be booked up to 1 hour prior to arrival at the station, and is available at all stations served by NS trains.

There are two service options:
1. The conductor on your train will announce the side from which to de-board the train at the requested station.
2. You can also make an appointment for NS Onderweg to call you just before arrival at the requested station to inform you which side to de-board the train from.
