Changing travel class with your NS-Business Card

Sometimes it is useful to be able to change class for a day, or for a longer period of time. You can arrange this using Mijn NS Zakelijk or an NS ticket machine. You can only change from 2nd to 1st class if you have a 2nd class NS-Business Card. If you wish to change a 1st class NS-Business Card to 2nd class, you will have to change your subscription.


Changing travel class via Mijn NS Zakelijk 

  • You can choose one of three options: a class change for an unlimited period, a class change for today only, or a class change for a specific date/time.
  • You can request a class change 24 hours per day via Mijn NS Zakelijk.
  • Always arrange a class change before you check in.
  • The class change is only valid aboard NS trains.
  • You will receive an e-mail confirming the class change request.
  • You can see whether a class change is currently active on your card in Mijn NS Zakelijk.
  • You cannot cancel the class change via the NS Ticket Machine.
  • Keep in mind that the class change will not be displayed on the check-in post, gate, or ticket machine. The conductor also cannot see the class change , because you do not download the class change from a ticket machine. Read more about changing travel classes at the bottom of the page. 

Changing travel class via the NS Ticket Machine 

  • Always arrange a class change before you check in.
  • The class change is valid until 04:00 the following morning.
  • You can change travel classes back and forth several times per day.
  • You cannot cancel the class change via Mijn NS Zakelijk.
  • The class change is only valid aboard NS trains. If you have a Trein Vrij or OV Vrij subscription, then the class change is also valid aboard other rail carriers that offer 1st class travel.
  • Hold the card against the card reader and follow the instructions on the NS Ticket Machine screen. And don't forget to check in!

Changing from 1st to 2nd class

Do you have an NS-Business Card for 1st class, and would you like to change it to 2nd class? If so, then you cannot change your travel class temporarily via Mijn NS Zakelijk. Simply change your subscription details from 1st class to 2nd class, and download the new subscription from any NS ticket machine. You can arrange this under the card details for the NS-Business Card in question.

Class change not immediately visible in card details via Mijn NS Zakelijk

The class change you have requested online is not visible on the card itself, because it does not have to be collected from a ticket machine. As a result, the pole, the gate or the ticket machine will not show the changed class. Neither will the conductor be able to see the class change, and he or she will therefore just make a note which will be compared with the class change later. Based on this comparison, the correct supplement will be charged to your account. So you can continue to travel in your chosen class. The supplement will be billed to your monthly invoice, en will be displayed in the travel overview and on the invoices in Mijn NS Zakelijk. If a class change to 1st class is active, you will also be able to see the expiration date.
