Train travellers healthier than car drivers
Train travellers are more physically active, walk more, and are less likely to be overweight than car drivers. This is because many commuters in the Netherlands travel to or from the train station by bicycle or walking. That makes choosing to travel by train more healthy than travelling by car. Train travellers are also more satisfied with their health than car drivers. Read all about this topic and more in the brochure by the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, about the health effects of commuting to work by train or by car. The RIVM has conducted a study of the physical and mental health and risk of infections among train travellers and car commuters.
