Travelling 1st class instead of 2nd class is nice once in a while, for example when the train is crowded. With NS Flex, switching to 1st class is as easy as pie! You can even change travel classes up to 15 minutes after you've checked in.
How it works
- Log in to your Mijn NS account.
- You will see 'Reisklasse' (Travel Class) displayed on the screen.
- Select '1e klasse' (1st Class).
- Choose how long you would like to travel 1st class:
- Today only
- For an unlimited time
- Until a chosen date
- Confirm your selection.
You can cancel your class change by logging in to Mijn NS and changing your 'Travel Class' from 1st class to 2nd class.
Good to know
The class change is also valid with other rail carriers. Please remember to check in advance whether the other rail carrier offers 1st class travel on your desired route.
Travel class change when transferring
If you travel with a transfer, and you only wish to travel 1st class on the second leg of the route, you can check out at the transfer station and then check in again. Then you can change your travel class as described above.
Costs for 1st class travel
When you activate a class change, we will charge a 1st class supplement percentage. At the weekend, the supplement is 50% of the 2nd class price. On weekdays, the supplement is 67%.
Say that you would like to travel from Amsterdam Centraal to Delft at the weekend, and your 2nd class journey costs €13.80. In that case, you would pay €20.70 for the same journey in 1st class (€13.80 + 50% of €13.80).
Say that you would like to travel from Amsterdam Centraal to Delft at the weekend, and your 2nd class journey costs €13.80. In that case, you would pay €23.05 for the same journey in 1st class (€13.80 + 50% of €13.80).
