Correction fees

NS Flex has a variety of correction fees that can be billed to your invoice. Please note that any fees will be billed to the next month's invoice.


Correction fees

You may be charged a correction fee for a variety of reasons, including:

  • you forget to check in or out, and we cannot calculate the price for the journey
  • a check-in is found to be missing during a ticket check, and you are therefore not in possession of a valid ticket
  • you are found to be travelling in the opposite direction during a ticket check
  • you are found to be travelling in 1st class without a valid 1st class ticket or supplement 
  • you are found to be travelling without a necessary Supplement product during a ticket check

You can correct a forgotten check-out by checking out at an NS post or gate within 6 hours of your arrival time. 

Forgetting to check in or out

We all forget to check in or out sometimes. If we cannot correct it automatically based on your travel habits, then we will charge you a correction fee.

The correction fee is €20 when you travel 2nd class for the standard rate. Naturally, we will base the calculation of the correction fee on whether you are travelling in 2nd class or in 1st class with a class change, and if you are entitled to a season ticket discount. 

For example: if you travel 2nd class with a 40% discount, then the correction fee is €12 (€20 x 0.6).

Invalid ticket

If the conductor finds that you have not checked in during a ticket check, then he/she will register that fact and you will be fined a correction fee of € 50.

Please note: this correction fee will be billed to the next month's invoice. 

Wrong class

If you are travelling 1st class with a 2nd class ticket, then the conductor will register that fact when checking the tickets. You will then be charged € 20 for 'Correction fee: supplement 1st class missing’.

Intercity direct

If you travel with the Intercity direct, you must purchase an extra supplement. This supplement can be purchased easily by holding your OV-chipkaart against the supplement post at the platform. If you forget to do so, then the conductor will register that fact when checking tickets, and you will be charged a correction fee of € 10 on your next invoice.
