NS and Tijd voor Lezen (Time to Read)
NS supports the following three campaigns by the CPNB Foundation under the title 'Tijd voor Lezen' (Time to Read).
The NS Publieksprijs (Public Prize) is the prize for the best book, voted for by the public. The winner is crowned 'Book of the Year'. Over the past few years the NS Publieksprijs has grown to become the Netherlands' biggest publicly-chosen book prize.
The 6 best selling books of the past year are nominated. The prize is then awarded to the title that attracts the most votes from the public. The winning author receives 1st class travel for a year, prize money of € 7,500 and a sculpture by Jeroen Henneman.
Kinderboekenweek (Children's Book Week) 2019 runs from Wednesday 2 October until Sunday 13 October. This year's theme is: modes of transportation, get on board! The free book given away during Kinderboekenweek is being written by Anna Woltz. The Kinderboekenweek picture book has been written by André Kuipers and illustrated by Natascha Stenvert.
NS Children's Book Swap
On the final day of Kinderboekenweek, Sunday 13 October, this year the NS will once again be organising the NS Children's Book Swap. Between 10.00am and 4.00pm, children can swap their old books at Utrecht Central and Amsterdam Central. On that same day, children's book authors, library staff and conductors will be reading to children too.
On Sunday 31 March, the last Sunday of Boekenweek (Book Week), thousands of train passengers were able to travel throughout the Netherlands free of charge, simply by showing their copy of the Boekenweek free book, Jas van Belofte.
Boekenweek 2020 will run from 7 March until 15 March 2020. This means that free travel will be available on Sunday 15 March 2020. Don't forget to save the date!
