Amsterdam and Schiphol

The new timetable for 2017 will go into effect on 11 December 2016. See what changes are in store for your region or plan your journey using the NS Travel Planner.

More direct Sprinters between Hoofddorp - Amsterdam Centraal

A direct Sprinter will run every 15 minutes between Hoofddorp, Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal. 2 of these Sprinters will continue on in the direction of Leiden and Den Haag Centraal.

Hoofddorp - Leiden Centraal: from 2 to 4 Sprinters

The Sprinter Hoorn Kersenboogerd - Hoofddorp will continue on to Leiden until 19:00. This will increase the number of Sprinters per hour between Hoofdorp and Leiden from 2 to 4 per hour. As a result, the direct connection between Amsterdam Lelylaan and Leiden will continue. The Sprinters from Amsterdam Zuid - Hoofddorp will no longer continue on to Leiden.

Almere - Schiphol

The number of Intercity trains between Almere and Schiphol will increase from 2 to 4 per hour. The distribution of trains throughout the hour between Lelystad and Almere will also improve, so passengers will not have to wait as long at the station. The Intercity trains between Lelystad and Almere will run 4 times per hour in the direction of Amsterdam Zuid, Schiphol and Leiden, where they will continue on to Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS - Rotterdam Centraal - Dordrecht on an alternating basis. Passengers will also enjoy good transfer opportunities in Leiden.

Passengers on the Sprinter from Almere Oostvaarders, Almere Buiten and Almere Parkwijk will always arrive in Amsterdam Zuid up to 10 minutes earlier if they transfer onto one of the Intercity's in Almere Centrum. This is because the Sprinter Almere Oostvaarders - Schiphol has to wait in Weesp for 8 minutes. These passengers will arrive at their destinations approximately 3 minutes earlier compared to the old timetable.

Enkhuizen - Amsterdam Centraal

All Intercity trains will once again stop at station Hoorn Kersenboogerd, including the rush hour Intercity's. The Intercity trains from Enkhuizen to Amsterdam Centraal are no longer coupled to the Intercity to Amsterdam Centraal - Amersfoort. This does not increase the travel time, but passengers will have to make an extra transfer connection. The rush hour Intercity's will have better connections towards Schiphol and Haarlem and a better connection from Amsterdam Centraal to Utrecht than the regular Intercity's. NS will adjust the length of these trains accordingly.

More Sprinters between Breukelen and Amsterdam Centraal

4 Sprinters per hour will run between Breukelen and Amsterdam Centraal during the day, instead of the previous 2. The Sprinter Rhenen - Breukelen will continue on to Amsterdam Centraal and Uitgeest, offering passengers more direct connections.

Night train Haarlem - Amsterdam Centraal

During the Friday and Saturday nights, a night train will run from Haarlem to Amsterdam Centraal at 02:10, and return to Haarlem at 02:34.

Faster transfers at Leiden Centraal Station

Leiden offers good connections between Intercity trains to and from Haarlem and Schiphol. For example, passengers can travel to and from Den Haag Centraal every 15 minutes, with 2 direct connections per hour. The Sprinter service around Leiden station is also better coordinated with the Intercity service, so passengers will not have to wait as long for connections.

Dordrecht - Leiden Centraal - Amsterdam Zuid - Lelystad Centrum

The Intercity Dordrecht - Leiden Centraal will continue on in the direction of Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam Zuid, Almere Centrum and Lelystad Centrum. This will create new direct connections to and from Amsterdam Zuid; for example, between Delft and Amsterdam Zuid.

Lelystad - Amsterdam Centraal, transfer in Almere

With the extra Intercity trains to Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol, the direct Intercity connection between Lelystad and Amsterdam Centraal on the route between Lelystad and Almere will be eliminated. Passengers between Lelystad Centrum and Amsterdam Centraal can transfer to the opposite platform in Almere, and the total travel time will remain the same.

The Intercity trains between Zwolle and Den Haag Centraal will no longer stop at Duivendrecht station. The Intercity Lelystad - Almere - Schiphol - Dordrecht will, however, stop in Duivendrecht, maintaining the Intercity connection with Almere and Lelystad.

Trains in the evening and weekend around Weesp

  • The Intercity Zwolle - Schiphol will also stop at Amsterdam Zuid in the evenings. As a result, passengers between Lelystad and Schiphol, for example, can reach their destinations 15 minutes faster. In addition to this, the Intercity Almere - Amsterdam Centraal will also be running. As a result, 4 trains per hour will run between Almere and the Randstad in the evenings instead of only 2.
  • The new 3rd and 4th Intercity trains from Lelystad - Almere - Schiphol will run until around 20:00 on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • 2 trains per hour will run in the evenings after 20:00 between Hoofddorp, Schiphol, Amsterdam Zuid, Hilversum and Utrecht. Passengers can transfer to other trains in Weesp and Hilversum. The Sprinter Utrecht - Hilversum will stop 2 times per hour at all stations along the route, and will continue on to Almere Centrum once per hour.

Venlo - Eindhoven - Utrecht Centraal - Schiphol

The Intercity Venlo - Eindhoven will continue on in the direction of Schiphol, instead of Den Haag. In Eindhoven, this Intercity train must be coupled or decoupled with the Intercity Heerlen - Schiphol (and vice versa). This will give passengers from Venlo, Helmond and Deurne a direct connection with ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Utrecht, Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol. In Eindhoven, passengers can transfer to the other side of the platform for the Intercity Eindhoven - Den Haag. The Intercity Heerlen - Schiphol will not run in the evenings. Instead, a separate Intercity Venlo - Eindhoven will run according to the daytime timetable. As a result, passengers to and from Den Haag will always have to transfer in Eindhoven.

New station names

2 stations in the Zaanstreek region will change names. Station Koog Bloemdijk will be re-named Koog aan de Zaan, and station Koog Zaandijk will be re-named Zaandijk Zaanse Schans.
