The new timetable for 2017 will go into effect on 11 December 2016. See what changes are in store for your region or plan your journey using the NS Travel Planner.
Faster and easier travel to the North and the Randstad
In 2017, the Intercity trains between Zwolle and Den Haag Centraal via the Hanzelijn will run 2 to 3 minutes faster than last year. This is due in part to the new infrastructure along the Zuidas in Amsterdam, and in part because the Intercity no longer stops in Duivendrecht. Travellers between Leeuwarden and Amsterdam Zuid will arrive 4 to 6 minutes earlier, thanks to a shorter stop in Zwolle. Moreover, travellers changing trains in Leiden will need less time to switch to the Intercity trains to Den Haag HS and Rotterdam.
More Intercity trains between Almere and Schiphol
The number of Intercity trains between Almere and Schiphol will increase from 2 to 4 per hour. The distribution of trains throughout the hour between Lelystad and Almere will also be improved, so travellers will not have to wait as long at the station. The Intercity trains between Lelystad and Almere will run 4 times per hour in the direction of Amsterdam Zuid, Schiphol and Leiden. From Leiden, the trains will alternate between the destinations Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS - Rotterdam Centraal - Dordrecht. Travellers changing trains in Leiden will also have better transfer connections.
Travellers on the Sprinters from Almere Oostvaarders, Almere Buiten and Almere Parkwijk will always arrive at Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol 10 minutes earlier if they transfer to Intercity trains in Almere Centrum: this is because the Sprinter Almere Oostvaarders - Schiphol stops in Weesp for 8 minutes. These travellers will arrive at their destinations approximately 3 minutes earlier when compared to the old timetable.
The Intercity Lelystad - Schiphol - Dordrecht will also stop twice per hour at station Almere Buiten. This will reduce the travel time between Almere Buiten and Amsterdam Zuid, Schiphol and the western Randstad by 11 minutes.
Almere - Utrecht
The Sprinter between Almere and Utrecht will no longer continue on to Almere Parkwijk, Almere Buiten and Almere Oostvaarders. However, thanks to the good transfer connection at Almere Centrum, the total travel time from these stations to Utrecht will remain about the same.
The travel time from Utrecht to Almere will temporarily increase by 5 minutes, and the train will no longer stop at Utrecht Overvecht in either direction. Travellers between Utrecht Overvecht and the Gooi region/Flevoland will need an extra transfer and a longer travel time. This adjustment is only temporary.
Lelystad - Amsterdam Centraal
Due to the extra Intercity train to Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol, the direct Intercity connection between Lelystad and Amsterdam Centraal on the route Lelystad - Almere will be eliminated. Travellers between these two destinations can transfer to the opposite platform in Almere. The total travel time will remain about the same.
The Intercity trains between Zwolle and Den Haag Centraal will no longer stop at Duivendrecht station. The Intercity Lelystad - Almere - Schiphol - Dordrecht does, however, stop at Duivendrecht, maintaining the direct connection with Almere and Lelystad.
Dronten, Kampen Zuid and the western Randstad
Travellers to and from Kampen Zuid and Dronten will need around 14 minutes less to travel to Schiphol and the western Randstad. Travellers to and from Kampen Zuid and Dronten who transfer in Zwolle will need an extra 10 minutes to reach their destinations.
Trains around Weesp in the evenings and at the weekend
- The Intercity Zwolle - Schiphol will also stop at Amsterdam Zuid in the evenings. This will save passengers travelling between Lelystad and Schiphol (and further) 15 minutes, for example. The Intercity Almere - Amsterdam Centraal will supplement this route, so now there will be 4 Intercity connections per hour from Almere to the Randstad.
- The new 3rd and 4th Intercity Lelystad - Almere - Schiphol will run on weekdays and Saturdays until approximately 20:00.
- Between Hoofddorp, Schiphol, Amsterdam Zuid, Hilversum and Utrecht: approximately 2 trains per hour will run in the evenings from around 20:00. Travellers can change trains in Weesp and Hilversum. The Sprinter Utrecht - Hilversum stops 2 times per hour at every station, and will continue on to Almere Centrum once every hour.
