Who is the Route Freedom with Split Payments season ticket for?

An NS Business Card with a Route Freedom with Split Payments season ticket is interesting for employers who:

• want to be certain about their budgeting;
• only want to remunerate their employees for commuter travel;
• have employees who travel to a fixed location 4 days or more per week;
• have employees who would also like to use the NS Business Card for private purposes.

If your staff regularly travel long distances by train with NS, an Trein Vrij [Train Freedom] season ticket  may be interesting. If they travel a lot by public transport, take a look at the OV Vrij [Public Transport Freedom] season ticket. If your employees travel to a variety of destinations, but only incidentally and outside the peak hours, try the Dal Abonnement [Off-Peak Freedom].

How does a Route Freedom with Split Payments season ticket work?

Using it is exactly the same as using a Route Freedom season ticket. The only difference is that two invoices are issued. One part goes to the employer, covering the fixed train route; this portion is the same every month. The second part goes to the employee, covering all the variable elements such as train journeys off the fixed route, journeys by bus, tram and metro plus the costs of using door-to-door services. This means that you (the employer) can be sure of the budget and your employee gets all the benefits of the NS Business Card.

When can you travel at a discount?

• You travel free of charge on the fixed route.
• A discount of 40% elsewhere than on your route on working days before 06:30, from 09:00 to 16:00, and after 18:30.
• During the weekend, there is a 40% discount all day elsewhere than on your route; this applies from 18:30 on Friday to 04:00 on Monday.
• All day on public holidays.

Invoicing

The season ticket can be loaded on the NS Business Card. All travel costs are settled in arrears and are presented on a single, clear invoice.

Season ticket costs

The cost of a Route Freedom with Split Payments season ticket depends on the length of the fixed route in question and the class you travel in. Look at the prices of the fare units for the Route Freedom with Split Payments season ticket.

Your subscription is added to your NS-Business Card. The costs of all your journeys are calculated after the event and presented on a single, clear invoice.

Checking in and out

The NS Business Card is a public transport smartcard for businesses. Hold the card up to a check-in post or gate to check in for the train journey. When you have left the train, you do the same to check out. If you are changing carriers, check out and then back in again with the new carrier. There is no need to check in and out in the Netherlands for international train journeys.

Joint Journey Discount

If you have a season ticket loaded on the NS Business Card, a maximum of 3 people may travel with you during off-peak hours at a 40% discount. Read more.

What is travelling on account?

‘Travelling on account’ is the payment method used for the NS Business Card. It lets you pay afterwards for the services used.

How does the NS-Business Card work?

You have to check in and out with each carrier individually. So after travelling with NS, you have to check out and then in again with your next carrier.

There are 4 season tickets: Dal (off-peak), Traject Vrij (single route), Trein Vrij (all train routes) or OV Vrij (all public transport). A season ticket also lets you retain the benefits of the NS Business Card.
