Bicycle Storage

Information about the use of your data when you park your bicycle in a storage facility at the station,

What personal data do we use?

When you use the bicycle storage facility at the station with an annual season ticket, 'Storage on account', or on a one-of basis, we use the information displayed on your OV-chipkaart and the transaction data. If you have an annual season ticket or 'Storage on account', you already provided these data when you purchased the season ticket. For day storage, you provide these data when you check in/out with your OV-chipkaart or bike tag and/or when you pay for parking your bicycle.

If you are an NS-Business Card holder or booker, we will use your business details if possible.

We make use of camera surveillance because we care about keeping our bicycle storage facilities safe for users and employees alike. Camera surveillance enables us to quickly respond to incidents and detect and prosecute infringements and criminal offences.

What do we use your personal data for?

The basis for data processing is: performance of a contract

You need a season ticket in order to use a storage facility with an annual season ticket or 'Storage on account'. You can purchase this online. For this season ticket, we will use your contact details and your card number. You can link this season ticket to any personal OV-chipkaart. You can then also choose to pair a bike tag with your OV-chipkaart to check in/out automatically at bike storage facilities.

To park your bicycle on a one-off basis, you enter into a contract with NS. We will then use the information shown on your OV-chipkaart and the transaction data in order to perform this contract.

The basis for data processing is: justified interest

Security

Camera surveillance is an important tool in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of criminal offences and combatting other offences. Another important purpose is to support the targeted deployment of emergency services in the event of emergencies or a request for assistance. Camera surveillance can also be used to support dispute resolution and to recover damage to NS property. Without camera surveillance, we would not be able to guarantee the safety of our bicycle storage users, employees and property.

The camera surveillance is openly visible and is indicated by images on stickers. NS and its travellers all benefit from camera surveillance.

Marketing
It is in your interest and ours that we improve our services. When you park your bicycle at a bicycle storage facility, NS processes your transaction data in aggregated form for marketing purposes. These include identifying the most popular storage locations, parking trends during the morning or evening rush hour, or the net turnover each month. If you do not want NS to process your transaction data for these purposes, please unsubscribe using this webform.

With whom do we share data?

We contract third parties to provide IT services. These third parties process our data solely for our own internal use, and for no other purpose. We have made agreements with these parties pertaining to the processing of personal data.

We are authorised to provide your personal data to parties outside the European Economic Community under certain circumstances. In that event, we will take suitable measures with these parties, for example by agreeing to the standard provisions required by the European Commission.

How long do we store your data?

We store financial data, contact details and your card number for up to 18 months after you use our bicycle storage facilities.

Only authorised personnel have access to camera footage. If no incident has been recorded, the footage is retained for 28 days, after which it is deleted. In the event of an incident, all footage is retained until the incident has been handled and processed in its entirety.
