About business subscriptions
The NS-Business Card with or without subscription. How does it work?
The NS-Business Card is a travel card with which you check in and out in public transport and at our door-to-door services. Your employer receives the invoice afterwards. It is not a subscription (because you only pay for the journeys you make): it is a card that you use to travel.
Do you regularly travel by train on the same route? Or outside peak hours? Then a subscription is almost always more advantageous. Your employer can easily add a subscription to your NS-Business Card. This is completely optional and flexible to activate, change or cancel.
With an NS-Business Card without subscription you can travel just like with an OV-chipkaart, only you will not get a discount on the fare.

Hoe kan ik een abonnement toevoegen op een NS-Business Card?
If you do not yet have an NS-Business Card, add a subscription when ordering your card. Go to the order page to order 1 to a maximum of 5 NS-Business Cards with or without a subscription. If you want to order more than 5 cards, go to our request form.
Do you and/or your employees already travel with the NS Business Card, then you can add a subscription as contact person, or - if this is determined by your organization - as cardholder.
Add subscription as contact person
You can add a subscription to an NS-Business Card as a contact person in Mijn NS Zakelijk. You do this under 'Manage cards and cardholders'. Click on your employee's card number, choose 'Change subscription' and then the desired subscription.
Do you want a Traject op Maat abonnement? Then contact your NS account manager. Or if you are self-employed with our Customer Service via 030 300 11 11. We will then add the Traject op Maat subscription to your agreement with NS. It will then be available in Mijn NS Zakelijk and, as a contact person, you can add the subscription to one or more NS-Business Cards. You do this under 'Manage cards and cardholders'.
After you have added a subscription to an NS Business Card in My NS Business, it is important that the person traveling with the card collects the subscription from an NS card machine at one of our stations. The cardholder will receive an e-mail with more information about this.
Add subscription as a cardholder
Your organization may have included in the agreement with NS that cardholders can order and change subscriptions themselves. You do this as a cardholder in Mijn NS Zakelijk under 'My NS-Business Card'. After you have placed a subscription on the NS-Business Card, it is important that you collect the subscription from an NS card machine at one of our stations. You will receive an e-mail with more information about this.
Am I tied to a subscription or can I switch subscriptions during my contract?
No, you are not tied to anything. If you have an NS-Business Card with a subscription, you can cancel it every day after the first month. You can also easily switch between the different subscriptions.
You can always change to a more extensive subscription. You can terminate or adjust to a cheaper subscription after the first month. If you have a Traject Vrij subscription, you can change your fixed route at any time. Also within the first month. Everything is easy to arrange via your Mijn NS Zakelijk account.
How can I change a subscription on the NS-Business Card?
Changing to a more extensive subscription is always possible. Changing to a more advantageous subscription is possible after the first month. If you have a Traject Vrij subscription, you can change your route at any time. Even in the first month.
Change subscription for your employee
As a contact person you can change a subscription on your employee's NS-Business Card in Mijn NS Zakelijk. Go to 'Manage cards and cardholders' and select the card number. Then click on 'Change subscription' and select the desired subscription. Your employee will then receive an email from us with more information about picking up the subscription at an NS card machine.
Change subscription as cardholder
If your organization has included in the agreement with NS that you as a cardholder can change subscriptions yourself, you can do this in Mijn NS Zakelijk under 'My NS-Business Card'. In the 'Directly arrange' block, choose 'Change subscription'. You will then receive an e-mail from us with more information about collecting your subscription from an NS card machine. If you do not do this, the new subscription will not take effect.
What is the notice period for an NS-Business Card subscription?
We implement a termination of a subscription immediately after the first 30 days. It is important that the cardholder 'collects' the termination at the NS card machine or one of the OV-chipkaart service points. After terminating the subscription in Mijn NS Zakelijk, the cardholder may have to wait 30 minutes before the termination can be picked up. That person will receive an email with more information about picking up the termination.
Hoe kan ik een abonnement op de NS-Business Card beëindigen?
As a contact person, you can terminate a subscription to your employee's NS-Business Card any day after the first month. You do this in Mijn NS Zakelijk under 'Manage cards and cardholders' and then by clicking on the card number.
Are you an employee and is the agreement within your organization that you as cardholder can also terminate your subscription? Then do so in Mijn NS Zakelijk under 'My NS-Business Card'.
Have you terminated a subscription in Mijn NS Zakelijk? Then the next step is to pick up the termination at an NS card machine at one of our stations. The person traveling with the NS-Business Card will receive an e-mail from us with more information about this.
How do I collect my new or terminated season ticket from the NS card machine?
Have you added, changed or terminated a subscription on an NS-Business Card in Mijn NS Zakelijk? The person traveling with the card will receive an e-mail in which we tell more about retrieving this subscription change. Please note: if you do not collect the change on time, it will not go through. You will then not have a new subscription on your NS-Business Card, or your subscription will not be terminated.
You can collect a change as follows:
  1. Go to an NS card machine at the station or one of the service points for the OV-chipkaart.
  2. Hold your NS-Business Card in front of the OV-chip card reader, at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Follow the steps on the screen.
You can also pick up the subscription change at the NS service desk.
What is the difference between the NS-Business Card and NS Flex?
With the NS-Business Card or NS Flex you choose a way of traveling that suits you. You travel on account and therefore do not need to add any balance to your card. The difference between the NS-Business Card and NS Flex?
  • Way of invoicing
    • With the NS-Business Card you receive all trips made on one monthly VAT invoice.
    • With NS Flex, you do not receive an invoice but have the option to create a separate declaration statement without VAT percentages in your My NS account.
  • Use of shared transport
    • With both cards you can easily use the train, bus, tram, metro, OV-fiets and 'Stallen op rekening'. With the NS-Business Card you can also choose the international train, shared cars and shared scooters. All costs appear afterwards on one invoice.
  • Costs of card or subscription
    • You can apply for the NS-Business Card and most NS Flex subscriptions for free. Only for Flex Basis and Flex Weekend Voordeel you pay a one-time € 10 administration fee.

Dal Voordeel
When are the off-peak hours?
The off-peak hours – the hours outside of the morning and afternoon peak hours – are weekdays from midnight to 6:30 am, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and from 6:30 pm to midnight. On Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, the whole day is off-peak.
What are the benefits of a Dal subscription for me?
During off-peak hours you get a 40% discount on your train journeys. Do you, like 90% of all business travellers, sometimes travel outside peak hours or at the weekend? You'll save money with only 1 trip per month!
Example
Suppose you travel once a month from The Hague CS to Amersfoort and back during off-peak hours. You will save €8.28 with the Dal subscription.

How do I know if a Dal subscription will save me money?
In many cases, a Dal subscription saves costs if you travel once or twice a month outside of rush hours or during the weekend. This depends on the distance you travel by train. Our Keuzehulp decision tool helps you decide quickly what the best option is for you.
Off-peak hours are on weekdays from 00:00 - 06:30, between 09:00 - 16:00 and between 18:30 - 24:00 the next morning, plus all day at weekends and on public holidays.

Can I only travel outside of peak hours with a Dal subscription?
No worries, with the Dal subscription you can travel at all times, whether during off-peak or peak hours. So you can check in and out whenever you want. You only pay 40% less during off-peak hours than during peak hours.
The off-peak hours are on weekdays from 00:00 - 06:30, between 09:00 - 16:00 and between 18:30 - 24:00 the next morning. Plus all day at weekends and on public holidays.
Can I upgrade to a Dal abonnement myself?
Yes, in most cases you can personally activate a Dal subscription on your NS Business Card in Mijn NS Zakelijk.
However, sometimes only the NS contact person within your organisation can change or order subscriptions. In this case this contact person will have to activate the subscription for you in his or her Mijn NS Zakelijk account.
How long am I tied to the Dal subscription?
After the first month, you can cancel your Dal subscription daily or change to a different one.
For example, if you know that you won't be travelling for a few weeks, you can change to the NS-Business Card without a subscription for that period (if you don't travel, you don't pay). Or maybe you will be travelling a fixed route more often anyway. Then the Traject Vrij subscription is probably more advantageous for you. How's that for flexible!
Traject op Maat
Who is Traject op Maat meant for?
Traject op Maat is intended for organisations with more than 30 NS-Business Cards that are looking for a solution for the home-work journey of employees who no longer travel to the office 4 to 5 days a week. Do employees travel 2 to 3 days a week on a fixed route? Then Traject op Maat is a good and inexpensive choice.
What are the main benefits of Traject op Maat?
  • A low-cost subscription for travelling 2 to 3 days a week on a fixed route. 
  • A flexible fare combined with budget assurance.
  • 40% discount on journeys outside your route, outside peak hours.
  • 40% Samenreiskorting in off-peak hours for 3 fellow travellers.
  • Traject op Maat can be cancelled daily after one month.

How do I order/change to Traject op Maat?
To order Traject op Maat, please contact your NS account manager. If you do not (yet) have an NS account manager, you can do this via the button at the bottom of this page. 
After this contact, the Traject op Maat subscription will be added to your agreement with NS and will also be available in Mijn NS Zakelijk. From that moment, you can order Traject op Maat as an employer. You can also choose to allow employees to order Traject op Maat themselves in their own Mijn NS Zakelijk account. (Please note: this is only possible if the agreement with NS states that employees can order and change subscriptions themselves).

Can employees also travel outside their fixed route with Traject op Maat?
Yes, employees can also travel outside their fixed route. During peak hours, the regular fare applies. During off-peak hours, a 40% discount on the regular fare applies when travelling with NS and other train operators.

Does it matter if my employees travel during peak or off-peak hours?
No, this is not relevant for journeys on the route and the calculation of the tailor-made price. When travelling outside the route, different fares do apply for peak and off-peak journeys.
When does the subscription period for Traject op Maat start?
As an employer, you can decide when the subscription starts when ordering Traject op Maat. The subscription period does not have to cover an entire calendar month.

How does the price structure of Traject op Maat work?
This is partly determined by the length of the chosen route, in combination with the number of days in the month on which your employee travelled on the fixed route. 
Traject op Maat distinguishes six categories: 0 to 8 travel days', '9', '10', '11', '12' or '13 or more travel days'. In this way the costs are always in proportion to the travel behaviour.

0 to 8 travel days: € 108.63
9 days travelled: € 130.35
10 days travelled: € 152.08
11 days of travel: € 173.80
12 days travelled: € 195,53
13 days or more travelled: € 217,25

What is visible on the invoice of Traject op Maat? Only the categories or also the specific number of trips?
The invoice lists only the categories that have been invoiced against.
Can I also order Traject op Maat in combination with Gesplitst Betalen?
From the end of 2021, we offer the possibility to purchase Traject op Maat in combination with Gesplitst Betalen (split payment). Your employee will then travel from door to door throughout the Netherlands with one card. Your employee will pay the invoice for travel costs outside the route directly to NS.

I would like to use Gesplitst Betalen. How is it ensured that the invoice is collected directly from the cardholder?
The cardholder logs in to Mijn NS Zakelijk and orders his Traject op Maat in combination with the service Gesplitst Betalen. During this ordering process, the cardholder agrees to various sets of general terms and conditions, including the NS-Business Card Product Conditions. The cardholder also authorises direct debit.
During the ordering process, the cardholder must check his personal details and bank account number and complete these where necessary.
What is the notice period for the Traject op Maat subscription?
After the first contract month, Traject op Maat can be cancelled daily. This is similar to other subscriptions offered by NS Zakelijk.

Wat is een Traject Vrij abonnement?
Traject Vrij is een abonnement dat je op je NS-Business Card kunt zetten. Dit abonnement is voordelig als je regelmatig (lees: drie of meer dagen per week) op een vast treintraject reist. Voor een vast bedrag per maand reis je van maandag tot en met vrijdag onbeperkt op dit traject.

Reis je al met de NS-Business Card, dan voeg je een abonnement als volgt toe.
Bus, tram, metro (BTM)
What kind of subscription do you have for bus, tram and metro?
For people who travel a lot by bus, tram and metro (as welll as by train) we offer the BudgetZeker BTM abonnement. This is an extension of the Traject Vrij subscription. With this combination you can travel by bus, tram and metro with all transport companies in the Netherlands for a fixed amount per year.

Co-travel discount
What is Co-travel discount?
With Co-travel discount you can give up to three fellow travelers a 40% discount on their train fare during off-peak hours. Giving Co-travel discount is something you are entitled to if you have a Dal Voordeel, Traject Vrij, Trein Vrij, OV Vrij or Traject op Maat subscription on your NS-Business Card. Or if your organization uses the NS-Business Collectief.
Why is NS changing the method of giving and receiving a Co-travel discount?
Our aim is to combat the improper use of the Co-travel discount. By doing so, we hope to reduce discussions on the train and enhance the social safety of our staff and passengers. 
I have a business subscription. How do I give others a Co-travel discount?
You share a co-travel code with your desired fellow passenger. There are two ways to provide a discount:
NS app
For this option, there are two things to bear in mind: you have to be logged in with your Mijn NS Zakelijk account, and your NS-Business Card must be linked to your account in the NS app.

It takes just a couple of steps to give someone a Co-travel discount:
  1. In the app, go to ‘More’ and click ‘Mijn NS’.
  2. Scroll down until you see the blue button ‘Share co-travel code’.
  3. If you click the button, you will see a co-travel code.
  4. Share this code with your fellow passenger(s) by e-mail or WhatsApp.
Mijn NS Zakelijk
  1. Log in to Mijn NS Zakelijk for cardholders.
  2. Under heading ‘Book now’, click ‘Co-travel discount’.
  3. Select ‘Share co-travel code’.
  4. You will see the co-travel code on the next screen.
  5. Share the code with your fellow passengers by e-mail or WhatsApp.
Upon receiving your message, your fellow passenger will be able to use the co-travel code for three days to order an online train ticket, or to link Co-travel discount in Mijn NS to one of the following subscriptions: NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij.
When checking your ticket, the conductor will be able to see that you are travelling together.
With which subscriptions may I give a Co-travel discount?
You can give fellow passengers a Co-travel discount if you have one of the following subscriptions on your NS-Business Card: Dal Voordeel, Traject Vrij, Trein Vrij, OV Vrij, Traject op Maat, or if your organisation has an NS-Business Collectief.
How does a fellow passenger receive a Co-travel discount?
Your fellow passenger receives a co-travel code by e-mail or WhatsApp, and they receive a discount by taking the following steps:
  1. Follow the link in the e-mail or WhatsApp message received from you as a business subscription holder.
  2. Open the NS app or ns.nl.
  3. Enter the co-travel code and select the ‘Use code’ button.
  4. Choose the ticket.
Your fellow passenger purchases an off-peak Single or Day return Samenreisticket in our online shop or logs into Mijn NS to use the code for the NS Flex subscription (NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij).
When checking your ticket, the conductor will be able to see that you are travelling together.
Please note: Co-travel discount has been updated. Until 22 April 2024, fellow passengers can still put the discount on their own OV-chipkaart at an NS ticket machine. After that date, this will no longer be possible through an NS ticket machine. Instead, you will arrange a Co-travel discount with a co-travel code. You will still be able to put a Co-travel discount on your OV-chipkaart at an NS service desk, as long as the business subscription holder and the fellow passenger go to the service desk together.
Which subscription does a fellow passenger need in order to receive a Co-travel discount?
A fellow passenger can only receive a Co-travel discount with NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij on their OV-chipkaart. It is not possible to receive a Co-travel discount with an NS-Business Card. 
A fellow passenger can also use the co-travel code to purchase a train ticket (Samenreisticket Dal) in the online shop.
Can I use my NS-Business Card to receive a Co-travel discount?
You can only use your NS-Business Card to give a Co-travel discount, not to receive one. If you would like to travel with someone else on a Co-travel discount, then you either need an OV-chipkaart with a Flex subscription, or to buy a Samenreisticket (Co-travel discount ticket) in our online shop. 
When is the Co-travel discount valid?
Your fellow passenger travels with a 40% discount during off-peak hours and on weekends and NS public holidays.
During off-peak hours
On weekdays between 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am.
On weekends and NS public holidays
The entire day.
Please note: your fellow passenger may not travel during peak hours with a Samenreisticket Dal (Off-peak co-travel ticket), even if they checked in during off-peak hours. If your fellow passenger is travelling on a Flex subscription, then the check-in moment applies. For example, the person who has checked in during off-peak hours may still be on the train during peak hours.
When are the off-peak hours?
The off-peak hours – the hours outside of the morning and afternoon peak hours – are weekdays from midnight to 6:30 am, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and from 6:30 pm to midnight. On Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, the whole day is off-peak.
Is there a limit to the number of co-travel codes I can give?
No, you can give away an unlimited number of co-travel codes. However, you can travel with no more than three fellow passengers at a time with a Co-travel discount. 
Can a fellow passenger travel with me using different codes?
Yes, that’s possible. However, you can take no more than three fellow passengers at a time with you.
Is the Co-travel discount also valid abroad?
The Co-travel discount generally applies up to the Dutch border. After that, your fellow passenger travels at full fare. Exceptions include routes abroad to destinations such as Aachen, Weener and Bentheim, where there are also OV-chipkaart poles. Your fellow passenger can also travel to these destinations with a Co-travel discount.
How does a fellow passenger stop their Co-travel discount?
Train ticket (Samenreisticket Dal)
The discount applies for as long as the ticket is valid. 
NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij subscription
The discount ceases automatically at 4:00 am the following day. 
No longer travelling together?
The train ticket immediately becomes invalid once you stop travelling with your fellow passenger. Your fellow passenger can purchase a new ticket in order to continue travelling alone.
If your fellow passenger has a NS Flex subscription, then they must check out at the carrier’s gate or pole and stop the Co-travel discount in Mijn NS. When they check in again, they will be travelling at full fare.
