Bicycle Storage

Information about the use of your data when you park your bicycle in a storage facility at the station.

What personal data do we use?

If you want to use a bicycle storage facility at the station with an annual season ticket, ‘Stalling on Account’ or as a day user, we process data including those shown on your OV-chipkaart and transaction details. For an annual season ticket or ‘Stalling on Account’, you provide these details when purchasing your subscription here. Day users provide this information when they check in and/or out with their OV-chipkaart or bike tag, and/or pay for bicycle storage.

If you hold or book with an NS-Business Card from NS Zakelijk, we will use your business contact details where possible.

We place great importance on the safety of bicycle storage users and staff. This is why we use CCTV. The cameras record images, enabling us to act quickly in case of incidents and to detect and investigate offences and crimes.

What do we use your personal data for?

The legal basis for processing: performance of the agreement
A subscription is required to use bicycle storage via an annual season ticket or ‘Stalling on Account’. You can take out this subscription online. We use your contact details and card number for this subscription. You can link the subscription to any personal OV-chipkaart. You can also choose to link a bike tag to your OV-chipkaart to check in and out automatically at the storage facilities.

Parking your bike as a day user means you enter into an agreement with us. We use the data on your OV-chipkaart and transaction details to fulfil this agreement.

The legal basis for processing: legitimate interest

Safety

In practice, CCTV is an important tool for preventing, detecting and prosecuting crimes and addressing other violations. Another key reason for using cameras is to support targeted deployment of emergency services during incidents or when help is requested. CCTV can also assist with dispute resolution and pursuing compensation for damage to NS property. Without CCTV, we cannot adequately ensure the safety of bicycle storage users, staff and property.

CCTV surveillance is clearly visible and indicated by stickers. Both NS and its travellers have an interest in recording these images.

At certain bicycle storage locations, NS shares responsibility for CCTV footage with others. NS acts as the contact point for questions and exercising privacy rights.

This applies to the following storage sites: Mahlerplein, Zuidplein, Strawinskylaan, Stationsplein and IJ-boulevard (in collaboration with the municipality of Amsterdam).

Marketing

Improving our services benefits both you and us. When you park your bike in a storage facility, NS processes your transaction data in aggregated form for marketing purposes. Examples include the most used storage locations, use during morning or evening rush hours, or monthly net revenue. If you prefer NS not to use your transaction data for this purpose, you can opt out by clicking here.

Who do we share your data with?

We engage third parties to deliver IT services. These parties act as our processors and handle data solely on our behalf and for no other purpose. We have agreements in place with them regarding personal data processing.

We may transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area in certain cases. When this happens, we implement appropriate safeguards with these parties, such as adopting the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

How long do we retain your data?

We keep your financial details, contact information and card number for up to eighteen months after you use the bicycle storage.

Only authorised personnel have access to CCTV footage. Images are stored for 28 days if no incident occurs, after which they are deleted. If an incident does occur, the relevant footage is kept until the matter is fully resolved.
