General rules
Size
Your hand luggage should not exceed 85 centimetres in height, width or depth. This is the general guideline for NS trains.
Responsibility & safety
You are responsible for your own luggage. Make sure it does not occupy seats or block the aisle or doors. Ideally, place your bags in the racks, under the seats or on the shelves above the seats.
Lost something?
Have you lost your luggage on the train or at the station? Then check the lost and found. We are happy to assist you further.
Baggage on international trains
The baggage rules vary between train companies. Please only bring luggage that you can carry and store yourself. Below are the guidelines for each type of train.
Eurocity Direct, EuroCity, ICE International and Intercity Berlin
Bring luggage that you can easily lift yourself. Small suitcases and bags fit into the storage racks above the seats. Larger items can be stored in dedicated spaces between the seats or in the luggage racks.
Eurostar to Belgium and France
Your Eurostar ticket allows you to bring two pieces of luggage (maximum 75 x 53 x 30 cm) plus one piece of hand luggage. There is no weight limit as long as you can carry everything yourself.
Eurostar to London
Each traveller may bring two pieces of luggage (maximum 85 cm) plus one piece of hand luggage. Travellers with a Business Premier ticket can bring one extra large item of luggage.
Children:
- Children up to 11 years old may bring one suitcase (maximum 85 cm) and one piece of hand luggage.
- Children under four years travelling free are not allowed to bring their own luggage.
TGV
You may bring two large pieces of luggage and one piece of hand luggage. Luggage racks are located at the entrances of the carriages.
ÖBB Nightjet night train
Storage space is limited. Each person may bring one suitcase and one piece of hand luggage. You need to be able to store these yourself in the racks near the seats and beds. Some carriages have additional racks at the front of the carriage.
Italian trains
Space is limited. Each person may bring one suitcase or travel bag in addition to hand luggage. You can store your baggage under seats, beds, or in storage compartments in your cabin.
