When can you take your bike with you?
On weekdays, you can take your bike during off-peak hours:
- from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
- from 6.30 pm to 6.30 am
During weekends, public holidays (except King’s Day) and in July and August, you may take your bike all day.
Each traveller may bring one bike.
Which bikes are allowed on board?
With a Fietskaart Dal, you can take these bikes on board:
- Regular and electric bikes
- Racing bikes and mountain bikes
- Dismantled bikes
- Folding bikes larger than 45 × 86 × 80 cm (folded or unfolded)
Tandems, tricycles and recumbent bikes for travellers with reduced mobility can be taken free of charge all day, provided they meet the conditions for mobility aids.
Cargobikes, bike trailers and hand-pulled carts are not allowed on board.
Are you travelling abroad?
Different rules apply for international trains. See the conditions on nsinternational.com.
Buy a ticket for your bike
You always need a Fietskaart Dal in addition to your own ticket. This also applies on weekends and during July and August.
A Fietskaart Dal costs € 7.95 and you can purchase it easily:
- online
- through the NS app
- at an NS Ticket Machine or NS Tickets & Service shop at the station
You can load the e-ticket into the app or print it out. If you buy the ticket at the station, you can load it onto your OV-chipkaart or choose to use a single-use chip card (€ 1.50 extra).
Where can you find the bike spaces?
Enter through the doors marked with a bike symbol. There you will find the dedicated bike spaces and see the maximum number of bikes allowed.
If there is space, park your bike in a bike space and remove your luggage. This keeps things orderly for everyone. If the bike spaces are full, wait for the next train and follow staff instructions.
Tip: allow some extra time in case you need to take a later train when it is busy.
Small folding bikes are allowed all day
A fully folded folding bike smaller than 45 × 86 × 80 cm can be taken free of charge all day. You do not need a Fietskaart Dal for this. Ideally, place your folding bike in a luggage space rather than a bike space.
Rent an OV-fiets
No space for your own bike or prefer to travel lighter? You can easily rent an OV-fiets at more than 300 locations.
With just one free subscription, you can rent up to two bikes at the same time. The NS app shows you immediately if bikes are available.
At many major stations, you can store your own bike for free for the first 24 hours in supervised bicycle parking.
