Travelling by train to the Nijmegen Four Days Marches

From 18 to 24 July 2026 the Four Days Marches return, the world’s largest walking event. More than 45,000 participants from over 70 countries, aged from 11 to over 90, come to Nijmegen each year to walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometres over four days through the Waal city and its beautiful green surroundings. They all share the same goal: earning the coveted Four Days medal.

The Four Days has plenty to offer even if you are not taking part. Enjoy the colourful Flag Parade, the enchanting Waal in Flames, lively Pink Wednesday, the exuberant Four Days festivities and the glorious finish on the Via Gladiola.

Practical information

Bicycle on the train

The trains to and from Nijmegen are extremely busy around the Four Days. We therefore strongly advise against taking a bicycle. There is a risk that it cannot be carried. If you do bring a bicycle, certain rules apply. You must have a Fietskaart Dal and there must be enough bicycle spaces available on the train. This helps us to ensure a pleasant and responsible journey for everyone.

Reisassistentie

During the Nijmegen Four Days there is no NS Reisassistentie at Nijmegen station at the following times because of the very high passenger numbers:

  • 18 to 23 July: from 21:00 until the last train of the day.
  • 24 July: from 10:00 until the last train of the day.

We are happy to help find a suitable solution. Please contact NS Reisassistentie (030 235 7822).

Ban on sale of alcohol

The Municipality of Nijmegen has imposed a ban on the sale of alcohol by retailers in the city centre. This means that at Nijmegen station no alcohol may be sold from 12:00 to 00:00 between 18 and 24 July.

Accessibility

Around the Four Days some one and a half million people visit Nijmegen and the surrounding area. They come to walk, cheer on loved ones along the route and enjoy the festivities. Walkers and spectators are advised to travel by public transport or by bicycle. From Nijmegen station you can be at the Wedren in no time and within a few minutes you will be in the bustling city centre, ready to cheer on the walkers.

To avoid queues at the NS Ticket Machines we recommend buying your train ticket in advance or loading sufficient balance beforehand. You can also check in and check out easily with a payment card.
