Young people aged 12 to 17 receive an NS Flex Dal Voordeel season ticket from us. This means you always travel with 40% off during off-peak hours, at the weekend and on public holidays.

What is NS Flex Dal Voordeel?

NS Flex Dal Voordeel is a season ticket that gives you 40% off during off-peak hours, at the weekend and on public holidays. The season ticket is free for young people aged 12 to 17.

Your child gets 40% off at these times:

  • Off-peak hours: Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 16:00 and from 18:30 to 06:30.
  • Weekend: Friday evening 18:30 to Monday morning 04:00.
  • Public holidays: all day.

Who orders the season ticket?

Children under 18 cannot take out this season ticket themselves. An adult, for example a parent, carer or grandparent, orders the season ticket. That person is the contract holder.

The contract holder:

  • pays the journeys monthly by direct debit
  • receives the invoice and sees the journeys in Mijn NS
  • manages the season ticket via their own NS-account

What changes when your child turns 18?

When your child turns 18, the season ticket continues automatically with subscription costs of € 6,35 per month.

Frequently asked questions about Dal Voordeel for young people

What happens to the season ticket when my child turns 18?

The season ticket simply continues. The contract holder — the person who pays the invoices — pays subscription fees for NS Flex Dal Voordeel from the first contract month after the 18th birthday. For example, if your child turns 18 on 16 May and the new contract month starts on 17 May, the season ticket is no longer free from that date.


Does your child want to pay for the season ticket and manage the details in Mijn NS after turning 18?

  1. Have the contract holder cancel the old season ticket.
  2. Have your child order a season ticket through our webshop.
  3. Create an NS-account during the order.

Does the offer also apply on buses, metros, trams and trains other than those of NS?

Your child also gets 40% off in the off-peak hours, at weekends and on public holidays on trains of other operators. There is no discount on buses, metros or trams.

I miss the Youth Day ticket. What is a good alternative?

We have several options for you:

  • NS Flex Dal Voordeel season ticket. Are you aged 12 to 17? Then you pay € 0 subscription fee. You travel with 40% off in the off-peak hours and at weekends. Your check-in time is decisive; the discount on the fare for your journey does not apply if you check in during the peak hours.
  • PrijsTijd Deal. Buy your ticket at least one day in advance to get a discount in the off-peak hours. The discount depends on the time and expected busyness. Are you aged 12 to 17? You receive an extra 20% off on top of the regular deal.
  • Co-travel Discount. Ask a season ticket holder for a co-travel code and travel together. You travel with 40% off in the off-peak hours and at weekends. Your check-in time is decisive; the discount on the fare for your journey does not apply if you check in during the peak hours.
  • Offpeak Groupticket. Useful if you travel with two to seven people. The more people who travel, the cheaper it is per person. From € 38,50 for two people.

I still have a Youth Day ticket Off-peak. Until when can I use it?

We have not sold the Youth Day ticket since 1 July 2025. If you bought a Youth Day ticket Off-peak, it remains valid for the whole day you selected when purchasing it.

My child has Kids Vrij. How can they switch to a free NS Flex Dal Voordeel?

When your child turns 12 we will automatically cancel the Kids Vrij season ticket. You can then order NS Flex Dal Voordeel for youth. Put the season ticket on your child’s OV-chipkaart. There are no subscription fees until their 18th birthday.

Your child travels with 40% off in the off-peak hours, at weekends and on public holidays. You, as the contract holder, pay the fare for your journey.
