King'sday 2027

On 26 and 27 April the Netherlands celebrates King'snight and King'sday. NS will run longer and sometimes extra trains to take you to your chosen event. Plan both your outbound and return journey in the journey planner beforehand.

Travel with your payment card

Don’t want to buy a single ticket? Simply check in and check out using your contactless payment card, credit card or mobile. You will travel in 2nd class with no discount or season ticket.

Practical information

We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Koningsnacht and Koningsdag. A number of measures will apply so that we can all celebrate together.

Alcohol ban

From 26 April at 19:00 until 28 April at 07:00 you may not bring alcohol to stations or on the train. Station shops will not sell alcohol during this period.

Litter

Many travellers will use our trains over Koningsnacht and Koningsdag. Please keep things tidy: take your rubbish with you and dispose of it at the station. Together we keep trains and stations clean.

Changes to station access

  • From 01:00 on Koningsnacht the entrances on the Jaarbeurs side of Utrecht Centraal will be closed. Access is via the Centrum side.
  • Amsterdam Science Park and Amsterdam RAI stations will be closed during Koningsdag.

Luggage lockers

At a number of stations near major Koningsdag events the luggage lockers and depots will be closed. You will not be able to store or collect luggage during these times:

The luggage lockers at Breda will be closed from Sunday 26 April at 19:00 until Tuesday 28 April at 07:00.

Bicycles on the train

On Koningsdag (27 April) the Fietskaart Dal is not valid for the whole day.

On the R-net route Alphen aan den Rijn – Gouda you may not take bicycles on Koningsdag or Koningsnacht. This rule applies from 26 April at 19:00 until 28 April at 01:30.

Season ticket

Koningsdag is a public holiday. For details about season ticket validity on holidays see Travelling on public holidays.

Student Travel Product

If you are a student with a weekly season ticket you cannot travel for free on Koningsdag; you travel on balance with a 40% discount. A weekend season ticket does allow free travel on Koningsdag.

Samenreiskorting

Arrange your Samenreiskorting with a samenreiscode on ns.nl, in the NS app or at the NS Tickets & Service shop / OV Service & Tickets shop. You cannot load Samenreiskorting onto an OV-chipkaart at an NS Ticket Machine. See more information here.

Reisassistentie

Because of the crowds on Koningsdag and Koningsnacht NS Reisassistentie cannot be provided at the stations and times listed below:

Koningsnacht 26 to 27 April

  • Den Haag Centraal: from 23:00
  • Utrecht Centraal: from 20:00
  • Arnhem: from 18:00

Koningsdag 27 April

  • Utrecht Centraal, Amsterdam Centraal and Eindhoven*: all day
  • Breda: from 10:00
  • Amsterdam Zuid, Arnhem, Zwolle and Groningen: from 18:00

*You cannot book this yourself. You can contact the NS Reisassistentie Customer Service on 030 235 7822. We are happy to help find a suitable solution.

International travellers

The Eurocity Direct will run to and from Almere Centrum instead of Lelystad Centrum on 27 April. Other international arrival and departure stations remain unchanged for Koningsdag. If you are travelling from Amsterdam and need to catch a flight or an international train we recommend you leave in good time. Allow extra travel time because of the large crowds in the city. Plan your journey in the journey planner.
