What does correction fee or boarding fee mean?
If you want to know exactly what the correction fee or boarding fee means, we explain it below.
The correction fee
The correction fee is an amount you pay when we do not know your departure station or arrival station. Because we do not have your full journey, we cannot know what the journey should have cost. That is why you pay a standard amount.
This standard amount can be higher than the fare for your journey if you had checked in and out correctly. Have you paid too much? You can request a refund.
Sometimes you receive a fine because you did not have a valid ticket. If you travelled with an NS Flex season ticket, we also call this fine a correction fee. You pay this via your invoice.
The boarding fee
Are you travelling on balance with an OV-chipkaart? You pay a fixed boarding fee at the start of each journey. When you check out, you get that amount back, minus the fare for your journey. If you miss checking out, you pay the full boarding fee.
This amount can be higher than the real cost of your journey. Have you paid too much? You can request a refund.

In that case, we register the check out at your arrival station with a pole as a check in. You will then be charged the amount for a missed check-out.
