Request an OV declaration

Do you pay your own travel costs to get to work? You can apply to the Belastingdienst for a tax deduction for those travel costs. You need an OV declaration or travel declaration for this.

What is an OV declaration?

A public transport declaration (OV-verklaring), also known as a travel declaration, is proof that you travelled by public transport. You send this declaration to the Belastingdienst to claim a refund for your travel to work.

How to request an OV declaration

Where and how you request an OV declaration depends on the ticket you use.

Season ticket

Do you travel with an annual season ticket? We will send your season ticket details to the Tax and Customs Administration. We do not do this for the Dal Voordeel season ticket.

Note: always check with the Tax and Customs Administration which documents you still need to submit.

The Tax and Customs Administration may require additional information. This could be confirmation of your season ticket or confirmation of journeys you made. You must supply those documents yourself as an OV statement with your tax return.

Examples of an OV statement:

  • Confirmation of your season ticket or of its renewal
  • Invoice for your season ticket
  • Bank statement showing the cost of your season ticket

Do you need an invoice that is older than 18 months? Request it using this form by exercising your right of access.

Student Travel Product

Are you a student and travel with a Weekend or Week season ticket? Request an OV statement from DUO (Education Executive Agency).

NS-Business Card

Does your employer pay for your journeys on your NS-Business Card? An OV statement is not required. If you are self-employed you can use invoices from Mijn NS Zakelijk to reclaim tax.

Do you need an invoice that is older than 18 months? Request it using this form by exercising your right of access.

No season ticket

Do you travel without a season ticket? Request a travel statement from your employer. With this travel statement and your tickets you can show the Tax and Customs Administration that you travelled by public transport.

On the OV-chipkaart website you can create an overview of the journeys you made with your OV-chipkaart. This only applies to journeys you made on NS.

If you travel with other carriers you may need an OV statement. Request it from the carrier.
