Together, we make the Netherlands sustainably accessible. For everyone. At NS, this is our daily mission, with 21,000 colleagues dedicated to making your journey as comfortable as possible. Together with our public transport partners, we continuously strive to improve our services and performance.
Our people, trains and stations form the foundation of everything we do. This is how we keep the Netherlands moving. We ensure cities and regions remain well connected, support economic growth and help meet climate goals. At NS, we work for connections and destinations—making travel as reliable and pleasant as possible.
Our impact extends beyond transport alone. We strive to be an organisation that reflects society: a place where everyone feels welcome and no one is left behind. At the same time, our time, capacity and resources are limited. That is why we sometimes have to make difficult decisions regarding partnerships and requests for support.
Our Social Role
As a social enterprise, we aim to contribute to solutions for major societal challenges. We operate where it matters, can, and must be done. We focus our impact on three key themes.
Making big strides with a small footprint
We run entirely on wind and solar energy, recycle old trains and use energy responsibly. With OV-fiets and walking routes at stations, we promote a healthy society. We reduce our waste and ensure new homes are sustainably accessible.
Connecting people
NS connects not only cities and routes but, above all, people—people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Through our efforts, we support major public events enjoyed by many Dutch people.
Equal dreams deserve equal opportunities
Reliable and accessible transport gives more people access to work, education and essential services. Day and night, we bring millions to that important exam, exciting job interview or a visit to their favourite grandmother.
The freedom to go where you want and be who you are—that is what matters to NS.
To make an impact on these themes, we collaborate with a select group of partners that align well with NS and our services. Additionally, many colleagues personally support good causes.
Sponsorship
We receive numerous requests from sports clubs, charities, organisations and individuals seeking our support. We see this as a great compliment, showing that NS matters and that people turn to us for a wide range of initiatives.
At the same time, it is not financially or organisationally feasible to process or fulfil all requests. That is why we take the initiative to collaborate with partners who align with our strategy and social role.
