Accountability

At NS, we value transparency. That is why you can always view our current performance on our dashboard, along with historical data. In addition, we provide detailed accountability in the Transport Plan every six months and annually.

Current Performance

Together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, we have agreed on our performance targets. This dashboard (in Dutch) shows the performance and information indicators we monitor and what we have achieved so far.

Types of indicators

In the concession for the Main Rail Network 2025–2033, agreed with the Ministry, we distinguish between two types of indicators:

  1. Performance indicators
These are measured against binding standards: minimum thresholds we must meet. Failure to do so may result in sanctions from the concession grantor. In addition, there are target values representing the goals we aim to achieve by 2029 and 2033.
  2. Information indicators
These provide insight into performance areas we report on but are not subject to binding standards. Most indicators are measured monthly or quarterly.

Accountability on the Transport Plan

As part of the concession, we report on our performance on the main rail network every six months and annually.

Six-Month Accountability Report

Each report (in Dutch) shows what we have achieved in the past six months. These figures also provide an indication of the performance you can expect throughout the year.

Annual Accountability Report

The annual report details our achievements over the past (in Dutch).

European Accountability PRR and Complaints Registration

European legislation requires us to assess our performance against service quality standards. The reports below (in Dutch) from NS Reizigers and NS International provide insight into our quality performance.

Tax Strategy

Here we explain how NS manages taxes and the associated risks. Our tax strategy has been approved by the Executive Board and applies to all taxes in the countries where NS operates.

Digital Accessibility

NS aims to make travel accessible for everyone. This applies not only to trains and stations but also to our digital channels, such as the NS website and NS app. We improve these step by step to ensure they work well for as many people as possible.

We follow the European Accessibility Act, which sets requirements for digital products and services from organisations like NS.

In this accessibility statement, you can read about what this directive entails, which services it covers, and how we ensure our digital services remain accessible.
