Province of Gelderland

‘Together, we make the Netherlands sustainably accessible. For everyone.’ That is our mission. We know it will become busier in the future, and that people want to travel more easily and sustainably. That is why we take responsibility for contributing to the Netherlands’ economic and spatial development. Good accessibility and fast connections are essential for this. We focus not only on the train but also on better connections with other forms of public and shared transport. This way, we make the entire journey from door to door easier. We always consider the changing needs of our travellers.

From Nijmegen to Winterswijk: a train for everyone

No matter your destination, the train can often be a key part of your journey. It is all about a strong network where stations and the main rail network, including the high-speed line, are well connected. NS is committed to fast connections within and between regions in the Netherlands. This means more frequent and quicker travel between cities, flexible and tailored services in quieter areas, and fast links to European cities. Together with Gelderland and other partners, we are working on increasing train services and making stations more attractive in the province. We are proud of this.

Travel from door to door

A smooth and easy journey from door to door is what we strive for. For example, the NS app increasingly offers travel advice on buses, trams and metro services. And of course, the OV-fiets. This bike has become a familiar sight and was rented over 5 million times in 2022. In some parts of the Netherlands, including Gelderland, public transport is not an option for the last few kilometres. That is why NS explores partnerships with car-sharing schemes and aims to provide car-sharing options at stations. We also arrange taxi services at stations. And cars are welcome too.

The Netherlands Main Rail Network

At the end of December 2023, NS was once again awarded the concession for the main rail network for the period 2025–2033. This means we will continue to carry travellers on the Netherlands’ key rail routes until 2033. Would you like to read more? Take a look at the NS Annual Report 2025 (in Dutch). Our client is the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW). Each year, IenW assesses our performance across twelve areas. All these areas currently have a green rating. We are also eager to go the extra mile.
