Mobility Development

In North Brabant, NS works together with governments, employers, educational institutions, transport providers and travellers to build a future-proof mobility system. We look beyond just the train, seeking smart solutions to keep the region sustainably accessible and liveable. This requires collaboration and innovation.

Smart solutions for congestion and sustainability

Motorways are becoming busier, housing is increasing, and climate goals call for smart solutions. Think of multimodal hubs, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), electric car-sharing, self-driving shuttles and (shared) e-bikes. Together with travellers, we test which solutions truly work and meet their needs.

What we do in North Brabant:

  • We participate in various programmes and initiatives in the region, such as Krachtenbundeling Smart Mobility South Netherlands, where we contribute ideas on behavioural change, employer engagement and Mobility as a Service (MaaS).
  • We advise on area-specific mobility packages to support housing development.
  • We collaborate with municipalities and the province to prepare stations as multimodal hubs. For example, in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the International Hub XL. We also explore station locations to launch pilot projects. This also connects with the development of regional mobility hubs by Brainport Bereikbaar and the Shared Mobility Vision in West Brabant.
  • We work with regional implementation programmes like Brainport Bereikbaar on approaches targeting employers (integrated services, promoting and implementing sustainable HR policies), visitors (such as the city centre agreement in Eindhoven) and residents.
  • We contribute ideas for flexible, demand-driven public transport. For example, shuttle buses running between stops connecting to stations and express buses serving areas without train services. This helps improve network connectivity.

Looking beyond North Brabant

Travellers do not stop at provincial borders. That is why we seek connections and explore opportunities with neighbouring regions. For example, along the A50 and A2 corridors, where we collaborate with Gelderland.
