At major events, we expect more travellers. We then deploy extra or longer trains. This requires planning: a train must be scheduled, a train conductor assigned, and we arrange cleaning, maintenance and safety at the stations.

In short, it is a significant logistical operation that needs advance preparation.

Stations are key hubs in public transport and transfer points for travellers. NS Stations works closely with ProRail and local authorities to prepare many stations for increased passenger numbers and to better meet their needs.

The Regional Development Agenda shows which improvements NS is exploring or planning—from 2020 to 2028, with a view towards 2030 and 2040. This includes product enhancements, network studies and measures such as reducing peak crowding.
