NS in the Province of Limburg
Limburg is an international province where cross-border connections and good accessibility within the province are important. Extra attention is needed, especially in rural areas. This includes more trains on busy lines, improved public transport hubs and comfortable facilities at stations. Sustainability is a natural priority throughout.
Together with governments, employers, schools, tourist organisations, other transport providers and travellers, NS is working on a future-proof mobility system. We look beyond just the train and seek smart solutions together to keep Limburg accessible, liveable and sustainable.
NS activities include:
- Participating in Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar, Trendsportal and Midden-Limburg Bereikbaar, contributing ideas on how employers can help and on Mobility as a Service (MaaS).
- Collaborating with organisations such as Visit Zuid-Limburg and We are Roermond to encourage visitors to travel comfortably and sustainably in Limburg.
- Working with municipalities and the province of Limburg to develop stations into multimodal hubs, for example in Venray.
Crossing the border
Good connections with Belgium and Germany are essential for Limburg. We aim to better link key economic areas and strengthen border regions, including routes to Düsseldorf, Liège and Aachen. NS actively participates in the Drielandentrein project and, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) and the province of Limburg, is exploring a full Intercity service to Aachen.
Intercity Eindhoven – Aachen
This Intercity connection brings the Netherlands one step closer to linking with the German high-speed network.
Stations as hubs of mobility and livability
Together with regional authorities in Limburg, we are working towards our shared ambitions for improved mobility and a pleasant living environment around the stations.
Mobility Development
In Limburg, we collaborate with various partners to develop a future-proof mobility system, making travel and living easier and more sustainable.
