Upgrade to 1st class

You can change your class in the NS app or Mijn NS:

1. Log in to Mijn NS
2. Select switch to 1st class
3. Specify how long you want to switch for: just today, indefinitely, or until a set date
4. Choose ‘Confirm’

If you prefer to travel in 2nd class again, you can reverse the class change in the same place in the NS app or Mijn NS.

The following applies to the Student Travel Product (student OV):

1. Go to an NS Ticket Machine
2. Hold your OV-chipkaart against the card reader and select ‘Load other products’ on the screen
3. Click on ‘Supplement 2-1’
4. Choose the variant you want
5. Follow the instructions to pay
6. Hold your OV-chipkaart again against the card reader

Your upgrade to 1st class is valid immediately, until 4.00 AM.

In Mijn NS

You can switch classes in Mijn NS (on the website or through our app) as follows:

1. Log in to Mijn NS.
2. Add your OV-chipkaart or OV-pas.
3. Switch to 1st class from the Mijn NS home screen.

If you prefer to travel in 2nd class again, you can reverse the class change in the same place.

At the NS Ticket Machine

1. Go to the NS Ticket Machine
2. Hold your OV-chipkaart or OV-pas against the card reader
3. Select ‘Change class’ on the screen
4. Choose ‘1st class for today’ or ‘Always travel 1st class’

Instantly valid

Your upgrade to 1st class is effective immediately, valid until 4.00 am. We automatically charge the fare for your journey when you check out.

Using the NS app

You can arrange a class change before or after checking in. You have up to fifteen minutes after checking in to do this.

Follow these steps to change your class:

1. Open the NS app.
2. Select ‘More’ at the bottom right of your screen, then ‘Mijn NS’. Has your NS-Business Card not been linked to the app yet? Find out how to link your card.
3. Scroll down to see your current travel class, which you can change to 1st class.

You can also turn off the class change via the NS app, or switch multiple times a day.

Using Mijn NS Zakelijk

Within Mijn NS Zakelijk, choose between three options: a class change for an indefinite period, one just for today, or one for a specific date and time.

You can request a class change at any time, but always arrange it before you check in.

Follow these steps to arrange a class change:

1. Go to Mijn NS Zakelijk.
2. Select ‘Request class change’ under ‘Direct manage’.

Using the Ticket Machine

Follow the instructions on the Ticket Machine to change class. Class changes arranged at the Ticket Machine are automatically valid until 4.00 AM the following day and can be reversed at the machine.
