From drawing to Droomtrein

Phileine (eight years old) drew her dream train full of cheerful monsters. She won the NS Tekenwedstrijd and, from now on, her creation really runs across the Netherlands. You might see it on your next journey. Will you hop on too?

The story behind the train

Phileine from Zutphen won the NS Drawing competition with her cheerful 'Lieve monstertrein'. More than 1,200 children sent in drawings. Her entry stood out for its creativity, use of colour and the number of delightful details. There is something happening everywhere. The longer you look, the more you discover. That is exactly what travelling by train is about for children.

A train full of lovely monsters

Together with illustrator Jip Piet, Phileine drew even more lovely monsters and developed her dream train into a design for a real train. Each monster was given a place, the colours were matched and the whole design was adjusted so it fits perfectly on a train.

The NS Droomtrein was officially unveiled on 24 March and now runs on the timetable across the Netherlands. Curious where the train is now? See the current location of this ICM train, number 4231, on this site.
