What to watch for when uploading your passport photo
- You should be clearly identifiable in the photo.
- The passport photo must be recent.
- Your face and both eyes must be clearly visible, even if you wear head covering. Dark glasses are only allowed if medically necessary.
- The photo should be sharp with good contrast. Both colour and black-and-white photos are acceptable.
Please note: if the photo does not meet the requirements, your ticket is invalid. The train conductor may take your OV-chipkaart and issue a fine. Unable to pay the fine in cash on the train? You can request payment deferral.
Which photos can you use?
- A photo of your paper passport photo, taken with your mobile phone.
- A photo of yourself, taken with your phone, tablet or webcam.
- A scanned paper passport photo.
- A cropped section from an existing larger photo (this can be done while uploading).
File size and format
- The file size must be between 150 kB and 5 MB.
- Maximum dimensions: 768 by 1024 pixels. If you are scanning a paper photo, set the resolution to 300 pixels per inch.
- The file must be in .jpeg, .png or .bmp format.
Having trouble uploading your passport photo?
Are you unable to upload your photo? The file is often too large. Try making the photo slightly smaller. You will probably manage without any problem.
