NS in the Province of Zeeland

Zeeland aims to become even more accessible in the coming years—not just the province as a whole, but especially the rural areas. NS shares this ambition. Smart mobility plays a central role, which means re-evaluating the best mix of existing and new transport options for the entire journey, from door to door.

We are evolving from a train company into a mobility company—and this opens up many opportunities for Zeeland.

How is NS approaching this?

Accessibility has already improved in recent years. Since the 2022 timetable (in Dutch), an additional fast Intercity service runs. All stations in Zeeland receive two trains per hour, with larger stations served three times per hour. Since the 2026 timetable, there is also a direct Intercity from Zeeland to Brabant and Zwolle. In addition, we are investing in new trains and modernising stations.

Smart mobility is the future. That is why we are working with the province to find door-to-door solutions, enabling us to deliver more comfort and convenience during your journey within the same budget.

Stations in Zeeland

Station Middelburg will undergo extensive restoration in the coming years. This project is a collaboration between NS, the municipality and ProRail to prepare the station for the future, while respecting the building’s historical value. We are also working together to upgrade the station and surroundings in Vlissingen. This development is partly funded by the Wind in de Zeilen programme.

Together with municipalities, ProRail and the province, we are improving Zeeland’s stations and their environments, including Middelburg, Vlissingen and Goes.

Middelburg

In Middelburg, we are combining several projects into one approach. The station will be refurbished, accessibility improved and the forecourt redesigned. We are also creating convenient spaces for shared mobility to make transfers easier.

Vlissingen

In Vlissingen, NS, the municipality and ProRail are redesigning the station area. Part of the improvements are funded through the compensation package from the Marinierskazerne. We are enhancing accessibility, renewing facilities and adding sustainable and innovative transport options. This will transform the station into a true mobility hub for the entire region.

Goes

In Goes, we are working together to find a good solution for the large number of bicycles on the forecourt. This will create space to make the square more attractive, clear and welcoming. There will also be space for shared mobility, fitting with the new homes being built near the station.
