After you have travelled, view your journeys in Mijn NS.
Cannot check in
Cannot check in
If you cannot check in, several things may be causing it. Note the message shown on the validator or gate and try again.
If it still does not work, check the following:
- Have you enabled contactless payments for this card?
- Is your card from ABN AMRO, ASN Bank, bunq, ING, Rabobank, Regiobank, Knab, Triodos or SNS? Or an (international) credit card from Mastercard, Visa, V Pay or Maestro? If not, you cannot yet travel with your payment card. Check in and check out also do not work with payment cards from Vivid, Paysafe, digital payment cards from Revolut and certain types of cards from other foreign banks.
- Do you see ‘Laatste OV-afschrijving niet gelukt - Betaal anders’? Your payment card is probably blocked for travel on public transport. This happens when a previous payment failed, for example because your bank account had insufficient funds. Top up your balance so the fare for your journey can be taken. After a successful payment you can use your payment card again for travel on public transport.

The gate probably detects your virtual payment card before your e‑ticket. Always load your ticket in the NS app and scan it from there. The NS app suppresses NFC, so the gate will open with your barcode.
Did you buy your e‑ticket from another provider? See whether that provider offers a ticket app. On some Android phones you can temporarily turn off NFC; check your phone settings for this option.

Enter the reference number shown with the charge and select the station where you could not check out.
If you have paid too much, the amount will be refunded to your account within a few days. Alternatively, it will be offset against any fare for your journey that you still owe.
