Engineering Work in Amsterdam

Scheduled engineering works may increase your travel time because they are planned in advance. You will not be eligible for a refund if you arrive later due to these works.

You can claim a refund if your train is delayed by at least thirty minutes compared to the timetable in the Journey Planner.

If you need to take a different route due to engineering works, check in and out at your departure and arrival stations as usual. You will not pay any extra charges if you check in and out at these same stations.

If you check in or out at a different station during your journey, this might cost you extra. You can claim any overpayment by contacting Customer Service.

Check out at the station where you switch from train to bus. There is a temporary check-in and check-out point at the bus stop where you check in again. When you get off, check out at the bus stop.

If you continue your journey by train afterwards, check in again at the station where you board.

If we recommend travelling with another operator during engineering works, your NS ticket is usually valid with that operator. You will check in and out with that operator and pay no extra charges, as long as you follow the instructions provided.

For example: if you travel by metro, you use your NS ticket but check in and out both on the metro and with NS at your departure and arrival stations.

Unfortunately, there is no space for bicycles on NS buses.

You will not pay extra if you check in and out at the same stations as usual.

If you travel with another operator because we recommend it, you do not need to check in and out with that operator. Your NS ticket will then be valid.

If you use an NS bus, you will also not pay more than usual. Check out when you leave the train, then check in and out again on the NS bus.

If more than 35 minutes pass between your check-out and check-in, you might pay more as this counts as a new journey.

If you have paid too much, use the questionnaire to check if you are eligible for a refund.

• possibly more standing while waiting
