R-net rail service
NS services the route between Alphen aan den Rijn and Gouda under the R-net banner. The trains are comfortable and are operated by a permanent team of service drivers. Find out more about this route below.
Route Alphen aan den Rijn - Gouda
On weekdays, the train runs every 15 minutes between 6:30 AM and 7:00 PM. After 7:00 PM and on weekends, the trains run every half hour.
- All NS season tickets and regular tickets can be used on the R-net route.
- In addition to the normal NS rates, there are also special ticket rates available for this connection, such as the GouweTicket and the GouweTicket Fiets.
- Travellers may take their bicycles with them along this route for free during off-peak hours (weekdays before 6:30 AM, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and after 6:30 PM). The special GouweTicket Fiets is available for travel with a bicycle during peak hours. You must have this ticket in order to bring your bicycle aboard the train. Each train section is equipped with three special bicycle racks.
Checking in and out
Where do I not need to check in and out?
If you are checked in on the R-net route Alphen aan den Rijn - Gouda, then you do not need to check in and out when you transfer to an NS train. The reverse is also true: when you have already checked in with NS, you do not have to do it again for the R-net train. However, when transferring to a bus, tram or metro, or to other train carriers, you do have to check in and out again.
Where do I need to check in and out?
If you have checked in on the R-net route between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen, then you must check out and then check in again when transferring to an NS train. The reverse is also true: if you have already checked in with NS, then you must check out and check in again with R-net.
Transferring for travel to Leiden or Utrecht
The rail service between Alphen a/d Rijn and Gouda has excellent transfer options to Leiden, Utrecht and the route to Den Haag/Rotterdam. Check the Travel Planner or the NS app for current departure times. You do not need to check in and out again.
Travelling with a disability.
The R-net trains are suitable for stepless entry and have an extendable step. All stations between Gouda and Alphen aan de Rijn have a ramp, and there is stepless entry to the trains from the platforms. Starting from September 2024, travellers with a disability can take advantage of NS Travel Assistance between Gouda and Alphen aan de Rijn, even if there is no conductor aboard the train. In addition, all trains have a wheelchair friendly toilet.
