Correction fee and boarding fee

If you forget to check in or check out, or if you are fined on the train or the platform, you have to pay an amount afterwards. We call this the correction fee. If you travel on balance, then you pay an amount in advance. This is known as the boarding fee. The amount you must pay depends on the situation. Scroll down to find out what you need to do.

Correction fee: when you travel on account - NS Flex

If you have an NS Flex season ticket, you pay for your travel costs every month. Any correction fees will also appear on your invoice in Mijn NS. If the correction fee is higher than your fare, you can request a refund for the difference within 6 months . You can do so up to three times per year. The correction fee for a forgotten check-in/check-out depends on your season ticket.

  • The correction fee for travelling during your unlimited travel period (100% discount) is €0 (for example, with an Altijd Vrij season ticket).
  • The correction fee for travelling during a discount period (for example, at a 40% discount) is  €12 (travelling on account).
