Booking and using mobility services

Information about the use of your data when you park a car or schedule, book, use and pay for a ride with a shared bicycle, shared car, shared scooter or taxi in the NS app, in the Mijn NS environment or by phone. These services may be provided by NS or a third party. All services provided by NS and other service providers are billed via the NS-Business Card invoice or the NS Flex invoice. The relevant Product Terms and Conditions describe which rights and obligations apply to the use of the NS-Business Card/NS Flex and the services provided.

NS is responsible for processing data pertaining to the scheduling, booking, and payment of mobility services. The mobility provider is also responsible for processing data pertaining to the provision of the service itself. The mobility provider and NS are joint controllers of the personal data needed for invoicing. NS will only provide the relevant mobility provider with the personal data necessary for your journey. 

What personal data do we use?

If you want to use a shared vehicle, you can plan, book and, if possible, use and pay for it in the NS app, in the Mijn NS environments or by phone. Depending on the service or type of shared transport that you use, we may process data such as that printed on your OV-chipkaart with an NS Flex season ticket or the NS-Business Card, your location data, and any transaction data. If you use an NS parking service, we will process your licence plate number and share it with the car park operator. We do not share OV-chipkaart data with these parties.

What do we use your personal data for?

In order to turn your train journey into a door-to-door trip, simply book the services online using the NS app. Some of these features can also be found in the Mijn NS environments or when you book by phone. To use these services, you must have the NS app and an NS-Business Card or NS Flex season ticket. 

The basis for data processing is: performance of the contract

We use part of the above-mentioned data as part of the travel agreement we enter into with you for your travel and other services, such as for invoicing the fare or processing a customer service request. If you do not provide this data to us and possibly other mobility services, you will not be able to schedule, book and use these services and pay for them with an NS Business Card or NS Flex season ticket.

The basis for data processing is: consent

NS may process your mobile phone's location data if you book a service in the NS app, for example to display your position in relation to a shared vehicle when planning. This is not necessary for the use of the mobility service, so we will request your consent for this. If the use of your current location is necessary for the performance of the service, we will not ask you for consent. The same applies to sending commercial notifications.

With whom do we share data?

If you use mobility service providers other than NS, then NS will share your travel data with these service providers, as well as your card number if necessary.

We contract third parties to provide IT services. These third parties process the data solely for our own internal use, and for no other purpose. We have made agreements with these parties pertaining to the processing of personal data.

We are authorised to provide your personal data to parties outside the European Economic Community under certain circumstances. In that event, we will take suitable measures with these parties, for example by agreeing to the standard provisions required by the European Commission.

How long do we store your data?

Customer data, with the exception of transaction details, is deleted 48 months after the last time you had contact with NS. We will delete your NS account at your request, as explained on this page. You can also use your NS account for other services.

We store your travel data for 18 months after you have used the service and for 18 months after the termination of the NS-Business Card or NS Flex agreement. Your personal data is stored by NS and the mobility provider for no longer than necessary for achieving the specified purposes, and will be deleted when you deactivate your user account.
