Today Friday 9th January adjusted NS timetable because of adverse weather conditions.
Last modified: January 07, 2026 8:00 PM
Winter weather is expected again today in much of the Netherlands, particularly in the three northern provinces. To ensure a reliable and safe trip for you, an adjusted timetable will be in effect. This means that fewer NS trains will operate on certain routes. Please expect additional travel time, more transfers, and crowded trains. Plan your trip shortly before departure for the most up-to-date travel advice. For international travel, please check the NS International website.
What does this mean for your trip?
On almost all routes, there will be at least two trains per hour, and sometimes four trains per hour. Plan your trip shortly before departure for the most up-to-date travel advice. As the weather situation remains unpredictable, trains may still run differently than planned in spite of the measures taken. Therefore, always check the Journey Planner shortly before departure or enable the “notifications” option in the NS app. Expect longer journey times and crowds, especially during rush hour. Trains may also depart at different times than you are used to.
Extra change in Zwolle
Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected today, particularly in the north of the country. Train traffic above Zwolle will be disconnected from the rest of the NS train service. As a result, disruptions in the north will have no (indirect) impact on train traffic in the rest of the country. Only Sprinters will run between Zwolle and Groningen and between Zwolle and Leeuwarden. For passengers from the northern provinces who want to travel further into the country or vice versa, this means that they will have to make an extra transfer in Zwolle.
The main adjustments are:
Sprinters only throughout the day:
Zwolle – Groningen
Zwolle – Leeuwarden
Fewer Intercity trains throughout the day
Amsterdam Centraal – Alkmaar/Den Helder
Amsterdam Centraal – Haarlem – Den Haag Centraal
Amsterdam Centraal – Utrecht Centraal – Eindhoven Centraal – Sittard

Are you travelling abroad? Start your trip earlier and plan extra time for a possible transfer. Check the websites of other public transport companies to see if there are any changes to their schedules.
During the winter timetable, you can visit What compensation does NS offer? | Service and contact | NS for information about the validity of your ticket and any compensation you may be entitled to. NS Customer Service is extremely busy at the moment; please note that they are unable to offer alternative transport.
If the snow and frost are not as severe, we unfortunately cannot revert to a normal timetable. Staff and trains are scheduled for different locations, and travel information is based on the adjusted timetable. Although this may be inconvenient for our passengers, we prefer to take this precaution rather than risk being caught off guard by weather conditions.
The seasons can have an impact on the railway, just like on the road or in the air. Want to know more? See: Train schedule changes | About NS | NS
