Route advice at your transfer station

At some stations, you are charged extra if you check out and check in at the gates during your transfer. Read about why this happens, and where you can prevent it.

Why do you get charged extra?

You will be charged extra if you use the gates during your transfer at the following stations:

  • Almere Centrum
  • Amsterdam Zuid
  • Amsterdam Sloterdijk
  • Amsterdam Muiderpoort
  • Hilversum

This is because the system charges you for the actual route you have taken instead of the shortest route.

Unfortunately, you cannot avoid these extra charges at the Hilversum, Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena and Amsterdam Muiderpoort Stations. However, you can request a refund by contacting our Customer Service.

At the Almere, Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam Sloterdijk stations, you can avoid these extra costs by taking the detour routes described below.
