Taking public transport to the beach
In the Netherlands, we have 353 kilometres of North Sea coast, and the rest consists of the Waddenzee and Westerschelde coast. More than enough space to enjoy the sun and sea!

Zandvoort aan Zee
There is a regular train running from Amsterdam Centraal to Zandvoort. Simply step out of the train and onto the beach.
However, this also means that the train to Zandvoort can be very busy during the summer. We've therefore listed some alternatives below.
Katwijk aan Zee
Buses depart regularly from Leiden Centraal to Katwijk aan Zee. The bus ride gets you to the beach within about 15 minutes.
At Leiden Centraal, you can switch to an OV-fiets. There are two OV-fiets rental locations at and near Leiden Centraal. It will take you about 20 minutes to ride from the station to the beach.
Egmond aan Zee
The bus will get you from Alkmaar station to Egmond aan Zee in about 15 minutes. There is an OV-fiets rental location at Alkmaar station. The ride from the station to the beach takes about half an hour.
Wijk aan Zee
The bus will get you from Beverwijk station to Wijk aan Zee in about 15 minutes. There is an OV-fiets rental location at Beverwijk station. If you rent an OV-fiets, you can be at the beach within about 20 minutes.
Domburg
From Middelburg station, you can catch a bus to Domburg and be on the beach within half an hour.
There is an OV-fiets rental location at Middelburg station. The ride from the station to the beach takes about 45 minutes.
Scheveningen
Scheveningen does not have its own station. To reach Scheveningen by public transport, you need to take the train to Den Haag Centraal, and then transfer to the bus or train to Scheveningen. Daar stap je over op de bus of tram naar Scheveningen.
Alternatively, you can rent an OV-fiets at Den Haag Centraal. There are two OV-fiets rental locations at and near Den Haag Centraal. It will take you about 20 minutes to ride from Den Haag Centraal to the beach.
Bloemendaal
To go to the beach in Bloemendaal, take the train to Haarlem and then take the bus to Bloemendaal. At Haarlem station you can switch to an OV-fiets. It will take you about 20 minutes to ride from the station to the beach.
