What is the Maandkaart Dal Vrij?

The Maandkaart Dal Vrij is a temporary alternative to the NS Flex Nederland Dal Vrij subscription. For €49, you can enjoy unlimited Second Class travel for 1 month during off-peak hours, weekends and public holidays.

You pay upfront for 1 month, with no ongoing subscription or direct debit. Simply purchase the monthly pass from an NS ticket machine and link it to your personal OV-chipkaart.

The pass is available until 15 August 2026.

Travelling with the Maandkaart Dal Vrij

The Maandkaart Dal Vrij is valid on trains operated by NS and other Dutch rail providers, excluding Nightjet and Eurostar services. Want to travel on Intercity Direct or ICE International too? A supplement is required.

  • What is the difference between a monthly pass and a subscription?

    A monthly pass is purchased for a fixed period and ends automatically afterwards. You pay upfront when purchasing it from an NS ticket machine, so no credit check is required.

    NS Flex subscriptions continue automatically, can be changed monthly and allow you to pay afterwards by direct debit. A monthly pass does not offer this flexibility. NS Flex subscriptions are often more cost-effective too.
