What is Nederland Dal Vrij?
Nederland Dal Vrij is a temporary summer offer based on NS Flex Dal Vrij. With this subscription, you can enjoy unlimited travel across the Netherlands during off-peak hours, weekends and public holidays. Normally, NS Flex Dal Vrij costs €127.95 per month. During this limited-time offer, you’ll pay just €49 per month.

The earlier you take out the subscription, the longer you can enjoy discounted travel. If you purchase Nederland Dal Vrij in June, you can use it for up to 3 months for €49 per month. The subscription is available until 15 August 2026 and will continue automatically until you cancel it.

What is Nederland Dal Vrij?

You also pay travel costs for train journeys outside your subscription, as well as tram, bus, metro and OV-fiets journeys afterwards by direct debit. When do I have unlimited travel with Dal Vrij?
You have unlimited train travel (including on the Dutch routes of ICE) at the following times:
During off-peak hours
From Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am.During the weekend
From 6:30 pm on Friday evening to 4:00 am on Monday morning.On public holidays
All day long. View our public holidays.Please note: the time you check in determines whether you will travel with a discount. The season ticket does not apply to train journeys on Eurostar.

Can I cancel Nederland Dal Vrij at any time?
Yes, the subscription can be cancelled monthly. You can easily cancel it via Mijn NS.

What happens if I travel during peak hours?
If you travel during peak hours, you’ll pay the regular fare for your journey. Make sure you check in during the off-peak hours to enjoy unlimited travel.

Can I combine Nederland Dal Vrij with other NS subscriptions?
You cannot combine a Nederland Dal Vrij subscription on the same OV-chipkaart with a Student Travel Product or Keuzedagen. Make sure your Student Travel Product or Keuzedagen are loaded onto a different OV-chipkaart from your NS Nederland Dal Vrij subscription.
Already have a Student Travel Product or Keuzedagen and want to use Nederland Dal Vrij as an additional subscription? In that case, you’ll need a separate OV-chipkaart. You can order one directly when purchasing your Nederland Dal Vrij subscription.
You can also choose a Maandkaart Dal Vrij, available from NS ticket machines.

How do I switch to Nederland Dal Vrij?
Do you have a subscription that requires you to top up credit before travelling on public transport? Here’s how to switch to one of the NS Flex subscriptions, including Nederland Dal Vrij.
In Mijn NS:
- Log in to Mijn NS
- Go to ‘Switch to NS Flex now’
- Click the ‘Order now’ button
- You’ll see your current and new subscription side by side. Select ‘Switch to NS Flex’
- Click the ‘Confirm’ button
- Visit an NS ticket machine or OV-chipkaart collection point to activate your new subscription
You can start travelling with Nederland Dal Vrij straight away. If you still had credit on your card, this will be settled on your NS Flex invoice.
Already have another NS Flex subscription, such as NS Flex Dal Voordeel? Then you can change your subscription to Nederland Dal Vrij each month via Mijn NS.

Nederland Dal Vrij is a temporary summer offer on NS Flex Dal Vrij. It’s the same subscription, but during the promotional period you’ll temporarily pay €49 per month instead of €127.95 per month. After the offer ends, the subscription will continue at the regular NS Flex Dal Vrij rate.

Can I travel for free on buses, trams and the metro with Nederland Dal Vrij?
No, travel on buses, trams and the metro is charged at the regular fare. You simply check in with your OV-chipkaart, and these costs will appear together with your train journeys on one invoice.
Your Dal Vrij subscription is valid on trains operated by all Dutch rail providers (excluding Eurostar).
