Refunds in event of strikes

If you have experienced a delay of more than 30 minutes on your domestic train journey with NS due to a labour dispute, then you can submit a request for a refund online in accordance with the Refunds for Delays scheme. If the strike by NS personnel made it completely impossible to continue your journey by train, then you are entitled to compensation for replacement transportation, in accordance with Article 6.4 of the NS General Terms and Conditions for Transport of Passengers and Hand Luggage (AVR-NS).

Reimbursement regulations

  • This compensation scheme only applies to journeys made on the day of the strike itself.
  • This compensation scheme only applies to organised strikes.
  • The maximum amount that NS will compensate for replacement transport is €25.
  • Travel by train on the selected route must be completely impossible.

  • NS will only compensate expenses for replacement transport if you can prove that you would have travelled with NS if the strike had not taken place.
  • Please send any receipts or documentation by post to NS Customer Service.
