What bikes do you need a Bicycle ticket off-peak for?

• Normal bicycles
• Tandems
• Recumbent bicycles and (disassembled) racing cycles
• E-bike

When can you take a bicycle?

On weekdays outside peak hours:
Between 09:00 and 16:00 and between 18:30 and 06:30.

Notice: when you check in before peak hours with your bicycle, but travel during peak hours, you are also not allowed to take your bicycle. 

At weekends:
All day.

On public holidays and in July and August:
All day.

The journey may start during off-peak hours, but may not be continued during rush hour.

Trains in July and August can be very crowded. It is therefore possible that there may be no space for bicycles in the bicycle compartment. The chief guard decides whether there is enough space. Furthermore, a maximum of 1 bicycle may be taken along per passenger.

What bikes can be taken free of charge, also at off-peak hours?

• Folding bicycles (collapse)
• A customised bicycle, recumbent or tandem for disabled persons under certain terms and conditions.

An Off-peak Bicycle Ticket e-ticket is quick and easy to buy. Enter the journey date and the name of the passenger and then pay for the order by iDEAL or credit card. After that, you can use the Fietskaart Dal e-ticket in three ways: downloaded onto your mobile, printed or loaded into the NS app

Downloading the e-ticket 

Immediately after completing your order, you will receive a link that lets you download and use the e-tickets from your mobile. If you want to get going right away, this is the quickest option.



You will also get a confirmation e-mail from us within 15 minutes. That e-mail contains a link that lets you download and print your e-tickets at any time. Printing the e-ticket is not mandatory.

Loading the ticket in the NS app

After completing your order, you will receive a link to your e-tickets. You will also get a confirmation e-mail with a link to your e-tickets. To load the e-tickets into the NS app, just open this link on your mobile phone.



You will then be taken to an overview page for your order. You will see two options there for using the e-tickets: ‘Download PDF’ or ‘Load into the NS app on your mobile’.


Choose ‘Load into the NS app on your mobile’; the NS app will open automatically. The e-tickets can now be found under the heading ‘My tickets’ in the NS app.

Do I have to pay more for a bicycle ticket if I am on a long train journey?

No, there is a single fare for this one-day ticket. It does not matter whether you are on a long train journey or a short one. So you can travel all around the Netherlands.

When can I take my bicycle on the train?

An Off-peak Bicycle Ticket lets you take your bicycle with you on Monday to Friday before 6.30 am, between 9.00 am - 4.00 pm and between 6.30 pm - 6.30 am. At weekends, on public holidays and in July and August, your bike can go with you in the trainn all day.

Note: an Off-Peak Bicycle Ticket only lets you travel outside peak hours on these days. So you cannot get on the train or stay on it with your bicycle during peak periods because of the crowding.

Do I need an Off-peak Bicycle Ticket for my folding bike?

Your folding bicycle can go with you free of charge in the train, including during peak hours, as long as it is folded away. You do not have to make a reservation or registration because your folding bike will not be taking up a bicycle space.


You must fold your folding bike away before boarding the train and only unfold it again after disembarking.


Your folding bike (and luggage) may under no circumstances block exterior doors, interior doors or aisles. That is for safety: all the doors are also emergency exits.

How do I get my bike through the access gates?

Every station has at least one wider access gates for bicycles and pushchairs. Hold your travel product up against the gate’s card reader. That checks you in and opens the gates. You only need to check in with your own ticket; you do not need to scan the Fietskaart Dal at the gate.
